Bonds makes me mad (1 Viewer)

He actually doesn't sound THAT bad.

If that's the worst they can say about him, then I might start liking the guy more.

Barry's obviously a Piece of ####. Glad that most folks will still view Hank as the HR Champ even after Barry is long gone

On the seven-hour flight an ugly exchange took place when Rector -- who earlier in the season had made an ill-advised comment about placing bombs in the lockers of black teammates -- referred to black outfielder Mike Devereaux as a "n-----." The mild-mannered Devereaux barked back at Rector, and shoves were exchanged. "That was a total misunderstanding," says Rector. "Mike and I were friends. I was just joking around. I liked almost all of the colored guys on the team."
Can't imagine why a club house full of these guys wouldn't warm up to Bonds.Stop the hate fellas, be glad we have the privilege of watching the greatest baseball player of all time shatter one of the great records of all time. 756

I like Bonds, I like watching him play, and I don't care if he uses roids or not, but let's not get carried away here. He is no Babe Ruth.

Sorry, but anyone that considers Bonds as the greatest player of all time is just wrong. Here's to him ripping up his knee before he hits 755!

either way, if Ruth were playing now I would go see him every chance I could.

and one could argue...

I never understood why he was allowed to continue playing. Didn't some guy confess to providing him with roids under oath? I wish the opposing pitchers would start pitching away from him. Don't give him anything to hit. I don't want him to break Hank's record.

my .02:

The problem, IMHO, is the dude is not the least bit contrite even though it is obvious he was using. Of course he was using, seemingly everyone was, if he would just acknowledge that the game was different for a few years and he is not using roids now, and is sorry for what has happened and stop being a pompous ### people would like him, but instead, he insists he did nothin'. BS! I honestly don't care to watch and hope like nuthin' that he does not break the record. It is not a matter of hating, it is a matter of he is a JERK, he is suspected of still cheating and yet I am supposed to embrace his breaking of one of the most hallowed records in all of sport............. I think not.

I often wonder what happened to Bonds to make him the way he is. This story seems to indicate that whatever it is, it happened before he was in college.

Watching cartoons every morning and giggling like a little kid? Stealing teammates homemade chili? Stealing a school credit card? Wasn't his dad a major leaguer? Didn't he have more money than most/all of his teammates?

The dude is messed up in the head and I really hope he doesn't make it to 755. Somehow he really thinks he is worth more than everyone else. Like his life actually matters more. Sad, very, very sad.

Who says he will be? At his current clip, he wont have the record by the end of the season. Of course the possibility of DHing somewhere is going to be explored but theres a long time until the next season and such time will wear on his body. I'm not going to fight the notion that he was a fantastic hitter and deserves in the Hall of Fame but giving him the honor of being, essentially, the best Power Hitter in Baseball leaves a stain on the league.

As I said ealier, if over the course of his college career, these are the worst things he did, then he's probably a better man than I previously thought.

You mind telling me who the other guys are? This guy sure seems like a tool but nothing in that article even remotely makes his racial attitude look like the norm.

Same reason that every other player that played at the time of the Roids era. Bonds has not failed any tests and you cannot prove he did take any roids. Just like I believe that Roger Clemens has also used the juice, I cannot prove it and will never be able to prove it. I have a feeling if you put the spot light on Roger that has been put on Bonds you till also turn up the same crap. The difference is that Clemens is media and fan friendly so he does not get the questions and well Bonds is not.

This is a very dissapointing story

D-Backs put up stop signs

Team bans fan's posters blasting Bonds, saying they are not in good taste

The last time the San Francisco Giants and Barry Bonds visited Chase Field, Don Regole of Tucson was prepared to make a statement.

A Diamondbacks fan who said he finds the steroids controversy in baseball "repugnant," Regole had purchased a ticket for a seat in the front row in left field.

A graphic designer, he had prepared nine banners measuring the allowable 48 inches by 18 inches - one for every inning to greet Bonds when he ran out to left.

They depicted messages such as "Bonds needs 756 days in jail." Another said, "Stop inflating records" with a syringe sticking in it.

Still another showed Hank Aaron's No. 44 with a halo over it and Bonds' No. 25 with devils horns and a tail coming out of the numbers.

"They're antagonistic," Regole said. "They're meant to be. But they're tasteful, in my opinion."

Therein lies the problem. The Diamondbacks policy on such things is pretty clear - if the club determines something to be in poor taste, they won't allow it.

"I got to the gate on April 27 and had them rolled up and in a bag," Regole said. "They told me they had to see them, and I told them 'I'd be glad to.' I was proud of them.

"The guy got on the walkie-talkie pinned to his shirt, and a supervisor came over and said I couldn't take them in.

"I asked what criteria they were making the decision on, and he said poor taste. He said there was a new rule given to them by upper management.

"That made me think that baseball is handing down a policy."

Regole said he has written letters to the Diamondbacks but has not gotten a response. So we asked club President Derrick Hall if Major League Baseball had put the kibosh on this sort of stuff.

"No, they haven't," Hall said. "That's always been our policy. Naturally, our awareness is heightened when San Francisco is coming in.

"It's at the discretion of the ballclub. We like them (banners and signs) to be tasteful and baseball related, and we don't want anything that is derogatory or negative toward a player.

"We don't want somebody to have to explain to their kid why somebody's banner says that Barry Bonds is a cheater. We try to make it a family-friendly atmosphere."

Regole said he wasn't confrontational and that the Diamondbacks security people were friendly about it.

He took the banners back to his car. But he said he still would like to get his message across and believes that baseball is trying to quash the controversy.

"As I brewed about it after I went back to Tucson, I thought that this is an infringement on my freedom of expression," he said.

Another fellow has run into a similar situation with foam asterisks - like the foam No. 1 fingers everybody sells.

Tom Wilson, who lives in California and is a Dodgers fan, wanted to sell the asterisks but cannot get any of the companies that make such novelties to mass produce them - because they fear losing their deals with MLB.

When Bonds takes his place in the field tonight or appears at the plate, there will be a lot of booing and some cheering, but that's about it.

So we gave Regole a chance to vent.

"As a fan, my biggest problem with this whole thing is that I wonder what fuels Barry Bonds to go after an ill-gotten gain," Regole said.

"How will he cherish that trophy knowing the whole world questions his pursuit?"
