Boyz N the Hood Question (1 Viewer)

Native

Footballguy
At the begining of the movie, when the Boyz are still kids, Ricky loses his football to a gang of older teenagers. Then, the perceived leader of the older kids curses his buddies out and throws the ball back to Ricky.

Is the guy who returned the football the same gang-banger who fires his machine gun like Schwartzennager in the parking lot and ultimately kills Ricky at the end of the movie?

First time I saw it I was probably 14 -- I remember when they shot Ricky, I was :jawdrop: -- I've seen that movie with probably 10 different people, even my old man, and they're all captivated by it.

in this case, yes
Anyhoo. That movie kicked ###.
I agree. As a young black male, it pretty much blew me away. I gotta get the dvd.

True dat. I'm pretty sure that was a confusing time for my parents between the obsession for that movie, the Georgetown Hoya paraphenalia, and the extensive collection of NWA and associated music. Especially considering the fact that I don't think I'd ever met a person in real life that wasn't white or brown.

Great movie, but I personally prefer Menace 2 Society...both paint pretty grim pictures of life in the hood, but Menace seemed more 'real'.

:lmao:

Favorite quote from that movie:

"Any fool with a #### can make a baby, but it takes a real man to raise it."

One of the best movies ever made IMHO. Singleton was absolutely brilliant the way he brought the hardships of living in South Central to the screen.

I'm a 40 somethin' white guy, and I have watched that movie with my teenage son several times - lots of life lessons to be taught/discussed from that pic.

Gotta love Furious Styles!

I liked when Furious took the young chaps to the billboards and explained how the black man had too many liquor stores and gun stores in his neighborhoods. Menace 2 Society was better, but this was a groundbreaking movie and a fairly accurate account of what goes on in the hood minus strong-arming hoz.

USC had to be stunned when Ricky went down at the end of the movie though. Fairly typical SC recruit getting shot before he ever gets to summer drills.

One of the old guys talking to Furious was Whitman Mayo from Sanford & Son.I agree that it's a GREAT movie. Not sure whether one of the teens from the beginning is the one that shoots Ricky, but it wouldn't surprise me.

yeah, i have my doubts about that.

the dude who gives back the football is short and stockyish. the dude with the curl who shoots Ricky is taller and thin.

Gentrification

Are you saying all black people look alike? It was the same dude btw.
If you look closer, I don't think the guy with the long Gericurls is the one that actually shoots Ricky. It's another guy in the backseat IIRC.

yup, you're right. been a few years since i've seen this one. it was a double-barrel shotgun out the back window. jheri curl was in the front seat.

Same actor or same character? I'd say neither. I agree with Furley about the size difference. Also, there has to be a 10 year gap between scenes. That would make the dude too old, no? Ricky was shot by a shotgun, the dude who killed him got sprayed by the machine gun.

"Can you drive stttick?"

Are you guys talking about that Giant Bald Guy? He is the one that threw the ball back. He took it from the guy who pulled out the "roll" and said I can buy me 100 balls.

I don't think that big dude is the same guy.

And I don't think the younger guy was the same person either?

Great movie. We watched it in the theater and right after bought another ticket and watched another.

:wow:

Laurence Fishburne who plays Cuba Gooding Jr.'s father is only six and a half years older than him in real life

Are you talking about the blood w/ the geri-curl who shot the uzi on Crenshaw? That wasnt the guy from when they were kids. Also, Ricky was killed by shutgun in an alley. The guy who shot him was a younger guy and also not from the scene when they all were kids. The guy with AK-47 that sprayed everyone in the parking lot of Jack-n-the-box was with Ice Cube. He didnt kill Ricky and he also was not the guy in the scene from when they were kids.

The scene at the end end where Doughboy walks across the street and disappears (and the titles say he buried his brother and was later killed) is one of the most effective I've ever seen in a film.

Yes, it's a great film.
