I've had incredibly good luck patching the holes in my rotation (Myers, Patterson, Padilla) with Looper and Claudio Vargas.

When will the other shoe drop for these guys, or do you think a breakout is coming? Add Lohse to the list, as well.

Yeah, it's very hard to gauge at this point. I'll be very interested in Loshe's line tonight. He's had an awful history of performances, but there aren't many guys that go out there and strikeout 12 in a game.

I still don't buy that Looper will keep this up all season. As a St. Louisan and Cards fan, I hope I'm wrong, but my guess is either he'll wear his arm out or he'll revert to the maddeningly-mediocre Looper of old, only in starter form.

I think Looper will be be a good but not great pitcher all season. Duncan is one of the best pitching coaches in the game. Looper was said to have starters stuff as he throws a variety of pitches. His last two games he gave up runs in the 1st and then none the rest of the game. It may take him an inning to get going (thus could explain his failure as a closer). I wouldn't be surprised to see him finish with around 14 wins and an ERA in the mid 3's.
