Hate to see anyone get seriously hurt, but at least it helps to clear up a very crowded backfield.May be permanently curtains for Jacobs.
Brandon Jacobs was carried off the field following what appeared to be a significant left knee injury in Saturday night's preseason game against the Texans.Jacobs was down on the field for several minutes as Texans and 49ers players alike gathered around him in concern. The injury happened at the end of an eight-yard run and collision with Texans CB Kareem Jackson, who was also initially shaken up but appeared to emerge okay. Jacobs could bear no weight on his left leg afterwards, and was ultimately carted to the locker room. It's early, but we suspect Jacobs won't be playing football this season.
This. Hunter will be an animal. This might be even bigger news for Kendall Hunter's chances in 2012. If Jacobs is gone it makes Hunter a clear handcuff with nice upside.
Thanks Captain Obvious!I think the injury makes Gore more appealing than anything else.
Yes because it removes a possible goal line vulture and makes the situation a little clearer. But make no mistake Gore is an older back with a lot of mileage whose YPC average has been on the decline for a couple of years now. Hunter will be on every single one of my fantasy teams this year.I think the injury makes Gore more appealing than anything else.
Why would that be? He wasn't a factor/threat last year when Jacobs wasn't there and they had yet to draft another RB.I expect more of the same. Gore is undervalued (and, no, I do not own him in any league).This. Hunter will be an animal. This might be even bigger news for Kendall Hunter's chances in 2012. Lol, I'm just saying everyone is saying Hunter now is the guy to get. To me I've been very stand offish on Gore because of Jacobs. I don't mind taking Gore now with Hunter behind him. He was there last year too and didn't do much with Gore there. I don't like Hunter anymore than Jennings from Jax or Gerhart in Minny. I'd probably take him over Felix Jones from Dallas. Thanks Captain Obvious!I think the injury makes Gore more appealing than anything else.![]()

112 carries for 473 yards (4.2 ypc), 2 TDs, and 16 rec for 195 yards. Wasn't a threat to Gore, but wouldn't say he wasn't a factor. He's looked like a capable long-term replacement to me. If Gore's still got it and stays healthy, I'd expect 2012 to look at lot like 2011. If Gore gets hurt, or falls off the age cliff, I think Hunter can step in and be a solid RB2 in fantasy. Why would that be? When I say not a factor, I mean he wasn't a guy in the same breadth as other RBs that are discussed as serious impacts (such as Tolbert to Matthews or the way DWIL and JSTEW offset one another). In the grand scheme of things, not a factor. As far as the "if Gore gets hurt" part...I don't delve into that because you could say that about anyone. IF RICE gets hurts, then somebody else has value. IF Peterson gets hurt, Gerhardt has value. What's the point unless we are in the business of predicting injuries, which if ANYONE can accurately do that, they should be in Vegas and not here. I'm not dealing with hypotheticals. I'm delaing with facts. Facts are its Gore unless otherwise noted.112 carries for 473 yards (4.2 ypc), 2 TDs, and 16 rec for 195 yards. Wasn't a threat to Gore, but wouldn't say he wasn't a factor. You're looking at this from the POV of Gore's value, I'm looking at it from the POV of Hunter's value. Might just be talking past each other.Impact on Gore: I agree (and said as much) that Hunter probably won't have the type of impact on Gore as those you mentioned. Then again, I never thought Jacobs would either. As far as dismissing "if X gets hurt, Y has value," of course that's a hypothetical and of course you can say that about anyone. The point is that I think Hunter has more value than many backups would have if the starter in front of them went down, because I think he's a starting caliber RB. IMO, he'd have much more value if Gore got hurt than Pierce (BAL), Goodson (OAK), Ringer (TEN), etc. etc. That matters quite a bit in dynasty leagues or when choosing handcuffs or end of the bench guys in redraft. When I say not a factor, I mean he wasn't a guy in the same breadth as other RBs that are discussed as serious impacts (such as Tolbert to Matthews or the way DWIL and JSTEW offset one another). Now bump Hunter. Looking like the Gore and Hunter show again this year.Another SF RB with a nasty looking injury. Lamichael James injured in the last 5 minutes of the game. 2 trainers had to help him off the field. James put ZERO weight on his left leg.
Okay, but it was still 4.2 and 4.3 the last two years, so it is not like it has slid into the 3s. He struggled down the stretch last year, but 4.3 for the year for an "older back" is still pretty good. Hunter is an intriguing backup, but I am not sure some should be totally writing Gore off just yet... Not saying he will be studly, but 1,100 yards and 7-9 TDs is still more than attainable.Yes because it removes a possible goal line vulture and makes the situation a little clearer. But make no mistake Gore is an older back with a lot of mileage whose YPC average has been on the decline for a couple of years now.
