Thought we could get some Jacobs owners in here to discuss his value and strategy going into the fantasy playoffs. Let me first start by stating that Bradshaw is clearly the better runner, receiver, and overall talent. That is a fact. Jacobs is obviously the starter in name only, due to Bradshaw’s previous fumbling issues, and who knows how long that title will last. Regardless of all that, in light of Jacobs’ huge day yesterday, there is big cause for concern. Yes he went over 100 yards and had two TD’s, but it was on only 8 carries! Bradshaw had 25 carries. This puzzles me. I read the thing about Jacobs not having been hurt, and possibly Coughlin wanting Bradshaw to get 1,000 yards at home. That doesn’t seem like typical Coughlin.
So here is what my perception was of Jacobs’ usage in games prior to yesterday:
- Close game: Bradshaw gets the large chunk of the carries – he’s the better playmaker
- Giants are behind: Bradshaw gets the large chunk of carries – he’s the better receiver and blocker
- Giants are blowing out the other team: Jacobs gets about 40% of the carries, as the Giants kill the clock and don’t want to overuse Bradshaw
Yesterday just killed premise #3. I’m wondering how Jacobs can be trusted as a flex option going forward. It sounds silly to complain about 100+ yards and two TD’s, but the touches are concerning in what should have been a 15+ carry game for Jacobs. He will not routinely go 100+ with two scores on 8 carries.
Thoughts from any homers? Would love some intelligent dialogue, and not the typical Jacobs bashing, as he has actually looked decent the past few weeks.
