Marshall has been an intriguing case this off season. People were down on him for a while because of the suspension but now his stock seems to be pretty high. Personally, I drank the cool aid and nabbed him at 4.04, hoping he is a great WR2. Although he will miss a game, he has indicated he wants to catch 140 passes this year, something that at least tells me this guy is a young (maybe a bit reckless) and hungry. Sure it's a fluff piece but I can't help but take notice. In addition, Cutler looks to be on the rise, with another (productive) year under his belt and his Diabetes under control.

I know there is an official spotlight thread (and apologize if there are other threads that ask similar questions) but I want to know what the SP thinks. Does this guy have top 5 on him this year? Does he have a chance to catch 110, 120, 130, or 140 balls? I think he is a very good/almost elite talent but am hesitant to anoint him the next coming. Although I think Denver has historically been a run first team, it would not be out of the realm of possibility to see this guy catch 120 in 15 games.

I've decided to add a few questions in a poll to add a black or white element to this issue.

ETA: To take into account Banger's well placed criticism of adding a lower option of 80-90.

In the first poll, I think the bottom option is high and the top options are off the charts, especially since he'll be missing a game to start.

I think Jerry Porter said he wanted to get 2,000 recieving. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in player fantasies. I'm a very big Marshall fan but I don't see him top 5 this year.

Wow. Thats alot of catches. Cutler's gonna have to throw to him over 200 times to get that many receptions. Just not possible. I'd say he's alot more likely to catch < 90 than > 130. I voted 90-100, but I think that should be in the middle of your poll range.

Slight uptick from last year's numbers (100/1300/11-13 TDs). The baby TO seems to be a strong comp as the only thing stopping him is his level of knuckleheadness. He's a full day for any corner on the other side, ends up in the top 5-8 if healthy and avoids any visit's to Goodell's office.

I voted 70-90 and finishing 7-9, because I think due to the susupension and overall maturity he is still one season away from completely blowing up.

The changing of the guard begins in 2009 as far as I see it. I'm giving T.O and Moss one more season, but next year's elite will be:

Braylon

Brandon

Calvin

Fixed. No defender can stop him.

Marshall will get over 1000 yards and score 10-12 TDs this year.

He is my 3rd WR to go with Moss and Plaxico in my total points redraft. Guys were scared by the suspension and how it would take him to get in the swing of things.

Correction:He is your #1 WR to go along with Moss and Plax.

It continues to amaze me that it is taking so long for ballers to catch on to how good Cutler really is and will continue to grow to be.

This has been coming for a long time. Am I the only one to see this coming?

As long as Marshall is in the lineup he will benefit from the extreme talent that Cutler displays.

It's not rocket science. Cutler will continue to dice up defenses, and Marshall is sure to benefit.

Why is this so hard for some to figure out?

Obviously, he is not going to catch 18 balls a game. Does he really dominate the game like he does the box score (haven't really been able to watch that much of him)?

If u see his stats from the tail end of last year - he really does dominate the game with his physical skills and speed.

This guy is a top 5 WR - hands down and has been all along.

Too many fantasy people just never want a changing of the guard and to recognize it.

What?Cutler's talent has been apparent from day one (at least in my eyes). All he needed was a top notch receiver of the likes of Marshall.

Why is that so hard to decipher?

1+1=2.

Marshall became and unstoppable beast last year. Today's performance is par for the course. He's not someone you want to see in an opponent's lineup.

 Been there since day 1. Missed drafting Cutler but was able to get Marshall in dynasty. This year I added Royal. As others slobbered all over the 'never was' Vince Young, the smart money was being bet on Cutler.

Yes. He's unique in his ability to attack the ball and then turn and make moves after the catch.

This is basically true. He just can't be covered man-to-man consistently by anyone, or almost anyone anyway. The one guy who might(and only might) be able to do it only gets to try it in practice. I'm not even sure Champ could completely shut him down when Marshall has all of his "my ball mentality" cylinders firing.A thought I had watching that game earlier: It's sort of hard to believe it really hasn't been that long since I was watching this guy start 7 games on D for the Knights and lead the team in tackles. He's just an athletic freak. And could actually still get better.

I have been on the bandwagon of not just Cutler and Marshall but Megatron too. I targeted all three in trades in my dynasty this year and got them all. May have overpayed just a little for Cutler but I got Megatron and Marshall pretty cheap. Others didn't see it. I was looking for the next big time QB/WR combo, I think I got it with Cutler/Marshall. The combo is invaluable in any type league.

Exactly.

Hard to fathom how you could have possibly "overpaid" for Cutler. He'll be a dynasty stud for years.

When I drafted Marshall in the 5th in my home league everybody snickered. When I drafted Cutler in the 7th People laughed, and then after the draft they criticized me. They said I reached for him. HEHEHEHEHE. They said the same thing last year when I got Romo in the 7th.

I love it when a plan comes together

Marshall is a beast. I think he ends up top 5 easily, with a legit shot to be #1. I got him as the steal of my auction in a dynasty start up this year. $4 out of a $200 budget when other top 10-15 WRs were going for ~$15-20.

I've read a lot of speculation today, I am just hoping to hear something in the way of projections for the week. Like I posted above, Marshall has averaged 11 receptions per game over the last 5 games. Against a weak secondary in New Orleans and Cutler seemingly getting getting better every game I think we can expect more of the same.

9-130-2

If you read a lot of the threads here, you'll realize you were never alone here. A lot of us have been on board the whole time.

If Marshall actually gets his share of TDs this year......whoa!! Unfortunately, my GUESS is that Scheffler will get a lot of red zone love the rest of the way,.

6-155-1Another big day for BM.
A big day in the box score... but it was a bit of an off-game for Marshall. He should probably have another 35 yds and a TD but he let it slip right through his hands. Cutler was a little off too and missed Marshall while wide open a couple of times.

Also one throw was too close the the sidelines and Marshall just stepped out of bounds while juking the defenders. Otherwise that was a huge TD.

Agreed. I was leaving the room but was he also barely tripped up going across the field, something that would have lead to a bigger gain?

Andy Herron obviously does not read these boards very often.... my guess is that many of us where WAY ahead of him on the curve with Cutler.... but it makes him look smart by making it sound like he's one of the few who liked Cutler... I could bump a few threads to prove my point, but it isn't worth my time. "Am I the only one to see this coming?" Yeah, if you were a hermit on Pluto, Mr Herron.

nah... not that I remember. There was that one that FavreCo mentioned where he would've scored from like 40-50 yards out but Cutler led him to the sideline a little too much.... but I don't remember him getting caught in the middle of the field stopping a huge play.Dude might have a couple 200 yds/3 TD games this year the way things are looking right now... it's scary.

he also had one reception late in the game where he got tackled by the shoelace in the open field, another close one that coulda went for a TD...

Probably the one I was thinking about.
Yup. That would have been about a 70 yarder. He had already made a bunch of people miss and had one guy to beat but the guy got him... barely.
oh... dang... I didn't see that play  Brandon's floor is looking like 6 for 150 a week.... ridiculous.

Not so fast. Marshall will be leading off on every highlight reel this week vs the Chiefs. Double down, Yahtzee, Boardwalk & Park Place, your ship has come in. However you want to put it, this is the week to end all weeks for Marshall. 140 catches sounded like it a typical boast, but if he does not have 13-20 receptions this Sunday, it will only be due to a big lead.
