Jets' wide receiver Braylon Edwards was busted on a drunken driving charge early this morning, after cops pulled him over on the West Side and found he had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system, police said.Edwards, 27, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. and charged with DWI, after cops pulled over his Range Rover at 34th Street and 12th Avenue for having overly-tinted windows. Police said they smelled alcohol and Edwards blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer, or double the state's legal limit of 0.08.

A passenger was with Edwards but it doesn't appear they were charged. Edwards is currently in police custody, and will be arraigned later today.

Weird... I saw a Tweet yesterday from a NY reporter that Braylon was arrested.. I Tweeted him back and there was no reply....

I don't think this effects his status for the game.... I believe Miami actually has a couple players with DWI cases pending....

That said, The Jets "Rented" Braylon and he's due a new Contract after this year - I think he just cost himself a few million... If he hits the open market and starts the year with a few game suspension, his value definitely takes a hit plus he's on the "bad" list.

Another athlete with ridiculous cheese that refuses to get a driver.
:ptts: Just think of all the trouble athletes could avoid if they just hired a driver/bodyguard or two who could chauffeur them around and take care of punks who want to take a shot at the athlete...

The Player Protect program is in place for our organization to prevent this situation. Braylon is aware of this program and showed poor judgment."The Player Protect program provides car service to players who are out partying.
Jets have a program in place too. What a #######.

This is clearly not Braylon's fault. Obviously the cop just hated him because he played for Michigan. And the breathalyzer was made in Columbus. And the judge is a friend of LeBron's. And Derek Anderson made him drive.

The jets were only keeping one of holmes\edwards after this year. Unless holmes kills someone in the next 6 months, that decision just became prretty easy.

God what a waste of tent. Makes me sick

just heard Mort... unless Braylon is already in the Substance abuse program, he could just get a 1/2 game check fine. No suspension but we'll see.

Don't they have practice today? That would be tough, hungover and all.

We'll see though.... Not to belittle it but, The NFL is littered with DUI cases.... Didn't Ronnie Brown just get one to little fan fare?

The Dolphins alone in the past few months have all this:

So now it’s Phillip Merling who is the latest Miami Dolphin to show up on the police blotter.

Merling, entering his third NFL season out of Clemson, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery against a pregnant woman in Weston.

That makes four Dolphins arrested since Super Bow Sunday, and all of them are key contributors: DL Tony McDaniel (misdemeanor domestic battery), CB Will Allen (DUI), RB Ronnie Brown (DUI) and now Merling, who is expected to battle first-rounder Jared Odrick for the starting job at right defensive end now that Randy Starks has moved inside to nose tackle.

Under the NFL CBA, DWIs fall under substance abuse and not personal conduct. If this is his first offense, he may not be suspended. Think Goodell has discretion here.

Considering that Braylon was with Stallworth that night, I would certainly hope that Goodell would drop the hammer.

I beleive he was expected to sit out of practice with "flu like symptoms".

It will be interesting to see how Goodell handles this one. Braylon's no contest plea for assault back in January could factor into the league's decision on this.

Is there a chance he was intoxicated during the game against the Pats Sunday? All that stupid dancing and taunting was a bit much.

This is the tweet from Yesterday 24 hours ago...

660JoeBenigno Bro! @joeandevan Braylon Edwards was just arrested for 9/11, oh the pain!

DUI can result in a suspension (see VJax), but I think in most cases a first offense doesn't. It may affect his FA value somewhat as he will now pose a great suspenion risk. Not good news but not the worst.

Guys - for this to stay a Shark Pool thread, please keep the discussion to what it means for Braylon Edwards on the field. Not slapping each other or making jokes about Edwards. The FFA is the place for that. Thanks.

J

I wonder if the cop taunted him after the arrest. Anyway, I don't think that he gets suspended for this week or the rest of the season. The Jets really need him for this week because they are short at receiver. Let's see if they re-sign Coles. Brad Smith hurt his jaw in week 2, so I don't know his status. That just leaves Clowney. I wonder if they pull one of those bs punishments like not starting him on the first drive.

Sounds like the Jets are going to suspend him at least for next weeks game.
That would be #### considering all the guys on Miami with issues.....
:lmao:You are trying very hard to turn a thread about Braylon Edwards into a thread about a division rival. Hint - no one gives a poop
:goodposting: Isn't Braylon on probation from slapping around Lebrons pal which happened in January of this year?
