Breaking Away 40th anniversary pic (1 Viewer)

I looked up the Little 500 on Youtube.  Pretty cool they still have the race.  The Cutters were in the pole position to start the 2018 race.

Good movie.  Glad I watched it for the first time.

Some corny scenes like the swim race at the quarry, but that's to be expected.

People come from all over the world to race the Little 500.

I always laid low on that weekend.

Bedlam in a smallish town.

No spoilers but the filming of the last couple laps of the Little 500 is great. One long take with the fictional action unspooling in front of you like a live sporting event.

Definitely watch.
Just finished it. What a great movie. It’s hard to put my finger on what makes me like it so much. For two-thirds of the movie, it really sort of meanders. And the payoff is pretty formulaic. But I think maybe that’s why it works. It takes its time developing the characters, letting you get to know them. While each scene doesn’t serve the plot per se, it serves the characters. And just when you find that you have become invested in every single one of them, parents included, the film delivers the expected, but completely fulfilling, ending. Thanks to all who recommended it.

Hmmm. Rudy? Gotta be some movie about the Indy 500.

There’s probably a documentary about the pit of misery that is West Lafayette
You could throw in Knute Rockne to the list, giving a really solid Mount Rushmore of Indiana Sports Movies.

Lived in Bloomington for about 30 years but only seen this movie once in its entirety.  Will give it another viewing soon.

Very well put. I agree about this being formulaic, the characters are all stereotypes of a sort but it all works incredibly well as I recall because the writing is good. This is all making me want to see it again. I brought it up to the wife who pooted as one of my stupid 80s movies without having seen it.

Yes!  I loved that it was one long take. Most movies would have had all sorts of cuts and close-ups. The way they filmed it, it seemed so much more real.

Oh crap. My kid is applying to Purdue. Is it really that bad?  Can’t be worse than South Bend, can it?
Great school. Just playing...Maybe give it a visit before they commit.

<<<< Brown County High School graduate here.

Definitely no mountains but the hills are abundant.

I worked at Ski World (although I think it was called Nashville Alps at the time) a winter or two during college.

I haven’t gone to the new Music venue yet but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.

I never thought my home area would ever be mentioned in an FFA post 😄. Mom still lives there, I was down there yesterday.

Great movie.Anybody else remember the short lived TV Series? The only characters that were played by the same actor as the movie were Dave's Mom and Moocher. It only lasted maybe 10 episodes.
