Corpas has blown saves two nights in a row. He has blown 4 of his 8 opportunities this year. His ERA is sitting at 7.50 and WHIP at 1.50.

Prior to tonight's game, Colorado manager Clint Hurdle commented on Corpas's struggles, indicating that a change may occur if his troubles continue.

"That's not a percentage we're going to continue to deal with," Clint Hurdle said.

"That's the reality of it. But do I expect him to convert every other one? No, I don't.

If he gets to the point where he's not closing off games with the success we think he

should and we need him to, then we'll probably make a change."

Corpas came in tonight with a 1 run lead and blew it again, giving up 2 runs.

The Rockies have Brian Fuentes sitting in the setup role, a 3-time All Star closer who had 20 saves before the All-Star break last year before getting injured and opening the door for Corpas. He has a 2.45 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP so far this season.

I think the Rockies will announce Corpas's demotion within the next couple days, possibly tomorrow. Fuentes will be the man in Colorado.

Fuentes blew 2 hold opps earlier this week. He pitched a scoreless inning today, but struggled earlier in the week. Corpas has been bad, but Fuentes has done nothing this week to give Hurdle confidence.

The move very well could happen, I'm just saying.

I know that but he also started the season with like 8 straight scoreless innings. In one of the blown holds, he came in with the bases loaded and happened to gave up a hit. Overall, he has been much better than Corpas this year, and I think he's clearly the next-in-line for saves.

That I did not know, crap. I was able to handcuff Fuentes to Corpas in one of the two leagues I own in him in, but missed in the other. I'm hurting and probably looking to make a trade once it does become official.

However, there isn't much in Corpas' underlying numbers to suggest that he's in serious trouble.Rockies homers say his Corpas' velocity is down a little compared to last season, which is somewhat concerning, but he is still a ground ball machine. He's allowed just 2 HR's in 53 plate appearances, so it's not really the long the ball that is doing him in. He certainly hasn't pitched well but his biggest problem has been throwing strikes. If the Rockies are patient, he should be fine, but patience is not something teams have a lot of when it comes to closers. That being said, it was probably still a good idea to handcuff Fuentes if you had the roster space to pull it off.

I didn't watch the game, but I read elsewhere and verified on mlb's gamecast that Fuentes was quite wild last night too. Yea, he didn't give up runs, but he wasn't pitching well. Just trying to find a source for some optimism; just hope Corpas hangs onto the gig for at least another week so the guy who speculatively added him can send him back to waivers for me to hop on.

I dont understand why they removed Fuentes from the closer role last year and then they gave Corpas a nice contract in the offseason. Completely boggles my mind. Im about to drop this guy, I dont care if he keeps the closers job. He has killed me this year.

Corpas out, Fuentes in as closer

After blowing his fourth save in eight opportunities Manny Corpas is out as the Rockies' closer, replaced today by Brian Fuentes.

Corpas has struggled with the command of his slider. That, combined with diminished velocity in his pitches, led manager Clint Hurdle to make the change.

"He's only been effective in a handful of appearances. He's blown three straight saves. It's apparent to me that it was time to shuffle the deck," Hurdle said.

Hurdle met with Corpas and Fuentes this morning, telling them of the move. In Fuentes, the Rockies have a three-time All-Star closer. He lost his job last June after blowing four consecutive saves.

Hurdle believes Fuentes is close to being as effective as he ever was with the exception of his changeup, which still needs some fine-tuning.

Corpas said, "I am going to look at some video. Obviously, my slider isn't working as well. It's spinning.

The bullpen situation is fluid but the current arrangement is as follows: Fuentes will handle the ninth; Corpas and Taylor Buchholz will pitch in the eighth with Kip Wells, Matt Herges and Ryan Speier the main candidates to pitch the seventh.

:football: I thought the tough patch for Fuentes earlier this week would give Corpas a slightly longer leash. I was already sitting on Fuentes, so this is great news.

Despite allowing a very deep and hard hit fly ball to Derrick Lee that was a few feet away from being a home run, Fuentes looked very solid in his return to the closer role today, striking out Ramirez and ####udome back-to-back to end the game.

Fuentes made ####udome look absolutely foolish at the plate, striking him out on three pitches.

I thought Lee hit it out at first, but he did make ARam and ####U look silly. Nice to see. I am guessing he will sit no matter what tomorrow. That is 4 appearances in 5 days.
