Briggs reported his car stolen? (1 Viewer)

I doubt we'll ever know what really happened other than that he was blitzed out of his mind, but this whole thing sounds very squirrely.

I hate liars. Wish he would just admit that he was driving under the influence, crashed his car and then left the scene so not to be caught (I guess he was too drunk to remember something called a VIN number). Take your punishment like a man.

What does remembering the VIN number have to do with anything. He's never claimed that it wasn't his car.

LOL I know right. Wasn't like he was going to ditch the car on the side of the road forever. He's smart. Why admit he was drunk and crashed a car? Do people admit to the police when you drive over the speed limit? Plus you're judging him and you don't even know all the specifics. LOL...some people on here.

Reports are that before he called the car in as "stolen", he called a tow truck. Damn phone records are a biotch.

Occam's razor, people. Anybody who doesn't believe that he was drunk and/or high is living in a different reality. Seriously.

And if you're making excuses for a guy who was out driving recklessly and drunk or patting him on the back for "being smart enough not to stick around", you are pretty lame too.

I was being facetious more than anything else, but why would you leave your imported $400,000 Lambo on the side of the road? Did he think that it wasn't going to be traced back to him? It isn't like it was a Ford Escort or something. He said he panicked, but yet he called a tow truck and then called in a false police report? Come on, that doesn't sound like panic to me. Panic to me, sounds like left the scene because he didn't know what else to do and called it in a few hours later, after he thought about it more. What he did was the leave the scene of an accident and phone in a false police report. Last time I looked that was a FELONY in all 50 states. The bigger question is why he left the scene? If he just crashed the car, why not call the cops and stay on the scene? Why flee? Could alcohol or drugs be involved? Sounds logical to me, especially considering it was 3:15 in the morning after he left 2 nightclubs called "Krem" and "Level". The other question that needs to be answered is, who picked him up? A teammate? Friend? Eventually phone records will indicate who it was and if it was a teammate, he'll be in trouble as well. This should be interesting as more develops. I can't see how this doesn't come with a 2-4 game suspension from the league.

So in your book, driving a $400,000 Lambo into a telephone pole, at 3:15 am, fleeing the scene of the accident, calling in a false police report and then making up a lame excuse for the entire thing- smart? :boxing:

 Enough specifics are known: He impaled his $350k ride into a guardrail at 3am.He walked away from the scene without calling the police.ERrr....oh wait, he called the police to report the car stolen. There's quite enough there to make a few judgments here and there. And, while we're at it, don't be deliberately clueless about this. Ingrates of the world get a free ride when people don't hold their feet to the fire and let them off the hook as quickly as you seem to be. There needs to be a judicious process, of course. But, let's not be completely obtuse here on a messageboard and make excuses for a guy who could have gone Leonard Little and killed someone.

Can't imagine this act will endear him to teams as a free agent. Not that he won't be in demand, but off-field issues will take a larger role in determining how much money a team wants to commit to a player, in my opinion.

Don't worry, after the media lynch mob gets done with him, they will defend him. Trashing a $350,000 car is punishment enough...as I doubt he gets any insurance coverage at this point.

You can put your noose away, John Clayton just reported that the only trouble he's going to be in is with his insurance company.

Probably. Thank goodness no one was hurt here.

He initially stated it was stolen by Comedian Eddie Griffin while he and Tank Johnson were attending a church social.

OK...please logically weigh the consequences. Keep in mind you a high profiled NFL athlete with a super strict Boss (Goodell) on a team just off of a Super Bowl run and you're trying to get a new contract next year. Now tell me...he should've ratted himself out and faced fines, possible jail time and a suspension from the league. Thank you...and who would say crashing a 400,000 car is smart?

I started a thread on this very type of topic years ago.

There must be some sort of rookie training camp briefing that we're not privy to...every year there's an instance of an athlete who crashes his car between 2am-4am...then leaves the scene...dealing with the "consequences" the next day after he's sobered up.

It's just too common for it not to be some bullet point during rookie orientation.

Apparently fewer specific are known than you think.

Guaranteed that guy was hammered. I had a friend do the exact same thing. Crashed the car, already had a couple of DUI's under his belt and bolted the scene in order to aviod another. When he got home he called the cops and reported the car stolen. Given that the commish is suspending guys left and right, a smart move on his part. I gotta believe the even if he does get suspended, it won't be for as long as it would have had he gotten a DUI. Good move on his part leaving the scent. Bad move putting himself in the situation to begin with. I have to believe that if you're a star player on the Chicago Bears(or any other team for that matter), getting a ride home should never be a problem. No matter where you are there's going to be somebody willing to make sure you make it home. Also, there are cabs all over Chicago.

I love the hypocrisy on this board. Just a while back there was a poll on who has driven drunk and I believe over 60% said they did and now everyone is screaming how bad of a person Lance Briggs is, when in all honesty we have all done the same thing as him (granted we all did not crash our cars). I dont fault Lance Briggs for the leaving the scene of the accident I mean if you knew you made a mistake and you could get away with it wouldnt you do it? I would and take it as a lesson learned.

I may be lame but it was the smart thing to do to walk away. DUI charge would have gotten him jailed and suspended. That's not happening. If you think it would have been smart to stick around and go to jail and get suspended from his job(thus costing him a pretty good chunk of change) then I would suggest that you rethink the situation.

Amen! The only people more self righteous than message board posters are sports radio talk show hosts. The moralizing that goes on there is beyond annoying. Everybody has smoked weed. Everybody has driven drunk(everybody who drinks has, at one time or another, driven over the legal limit. Not difficult to do. It only takes a 3 beers in 1 hour to blow over). Stop with the hypocrisy.
