Brinkley (1 Viewer)

This kid has looked pretty good subbing in for Ryan Mathews and the MNF announcing crew has been gushing about him for the last few minutes.

Anything to see here?

What Im wondering is how bad is Tolbert hurt?

Theyre saying Mathews has a groin injury, thats never a quick one to come back from, and its not like they didnt need him to win tonight.

Curtis Brinkley, RB

Height / Weight:

5-09 / 208

School: Syracuse

Overview

Brinkley's renewed work ethic and a somewhat improved Syracuse offensive line helped him finally play up to his potential in 2008. He was second-team All-Big East after rushing for 1,164 yards and seven scores. The recent lack of success (3-9) for his team kept Brinkley under the radar for most of the country, but not for NFL scouts. His patience and burst through the hole make him a prime candidate for teams using a zone-blocking system.

Analysis

Positives: Low center of gravity, and will run through arm tackles and maintain his balance after spin moves inside. Decisive in his cuts, with good vision to find the hole. Patient runner on stretch or zone plays, displaying a good burst once the hole appears. Quick to get into his route, and fast in and out of his cut. Looks natural as a receiver. Willing to block in pass protection. Gets to the defender's leg on cut blocks and can punch and use his lack of height to get leverage. Good vertical to leap over the pile near the goal line. Has experience returning kickoffs, averaging 21.1 per return in 2005-2006.

Negatives: Good all-around back, but not great in any one area. Likely won't be used in short-yardage situations because he lacks the bulk to move the pile. Dances in space or in the hole too much, occasionally losing his balance when making a move. Got the corner in college after bouncing outside, but must prove he can do it against quicker NFL linebackers. Missed the last month of 2007 with broken right leg. Didn't match his potential until his senior year.

Brinkley looked good. Honestly, when I saw him hurdle two tacklers on back to back plays I thought to myself that he's going to get hurt if he keeps going airborne. I just saw the concussion reports and am bummed. I hope it's minor.

There is a lot to see here. Brinkley runs with strength and determination. He finds holes quickly and hits them hard, and fights for every yard. He needs to be owned especially in dynasty leagues... imo.

at the rate matthews and tolbert are getting hurt i am sure this thread will be bumped in 2-3 weeks when their injury cycles come together making Brinkley a great pickup for week 13. we should start the week 13 ww adds early.

maybe we should have Mathews and Tolbert to move in together so their injuries are on the same cycle and we can pickup Brinkley at the right time

Curtis Brinkley - RB - Chargers Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley (concussion) has been medically cleared for Week 9.

Brinkley is expected to "spell" Mike Tolbert against the Packers. A candidate for no more than 6-9 touches, Brinkley just won't be a Week 9 fantasy option. Source: Michael Gehlken on Twitter

Damn, I thought he was out for sure after not even being cleared to practice on thursday so I dropped him for Taiwan...Figures.

Figures what...Matthews could still play and be back by Thursday. If that happens Brinkley is still in 3rd in competition for touches behind Matthews and Tolbert.Jones only has Bush in front of him and there is no guarantee DMC is ready for Thursday.Id take Jones over Brinkley easy. Its not as if GB is a great matchup for backs (yes...they have given up some yards the last few weeks...but Brinkley is not ADP)

Unfortunately wasn't able to get any touches with Mathews out. Probably pretty safe to drop him, even in dynasties.

Well, Brinkley is not ADP...but Tolbert sure looked good against the Packer D. Not sure what is up with their defense right now...just putrid tackling and no pass rush. Far cry from last year.

The reason he got no touches, is because he was not dressed for the game. "Inactive".Don't drop this kid in dynasty leagues, he could be something special.

http://www.nfl.com/inactiveshttp://blog.chargers.com/2011/11/06/packers-chargers-inactives/Perhaps he was only going to be used in emergency situations, or perhaps both of those lists are wrong. Either way, I think his owners were hoping to see him at least get some action, because he isn't going to be on the field at all with Tolbert and Mathews. It is pretty hard to justify holding onto Brinkley, at least in the leagues the size I have him in (12x24).
