Brown Recluse Bite (1 Viewer)

SHIZNITTTT

Wife was bitten by a brown recluse spider which landed her in the ER. She was admitted to the hospital, spent one night. My wife has AFLAC so how much cash will I be receiving?

My wife has Accidental Policy, Short Term Disability, and Hospitalization.

I hope I get to make it rain.

A lot of guys I work with have AFLAC supplemental insurance. They have a hell of a time getting them to pay claims. Many have dropped them because of this.

I've heard that AFLAC likes to duck out on their claims. It sucks when you have a big bill.

those things can be pretty serious... hope she's ok
Yeah pretty serious. Some nasty looking bruising that spread pretty fast. A lot of pain, fever, heart palpitations. She is on a lot of pain medications, steroids, and antibiotics.
How much tissue did it kill? I knew a guy who got bit on the inside of the knee and it looked like a freaking bullet wound when all was said and done.

The training base I went to in Texas after Basic had a history of brown recluse bites. They like to hang out in the airframes to get out of the heat. One guy ended up with a good size hole in his hand from one while I was there.

Only day 3 and the skin hasn't started to slough off yet. It started off the size of a pin head, and by the end of the first day it was half dollar size, black, blue, green. Today day 3 it is solid bruise and really painful. Dr. said it could take up to 7 days to see the results of the bite fully.

Update?
Day 4 a lot of pain (burning type) she is taking a lot of pain medication, and has an ice bag on the bite area, which seems to help a little. Have a follow up with her PCP tomorrow. The bite site seems to look a little better today. Biggest problem is with the breakthrough pain, no warning at all it just happens, and usually it is in the middle of the night.

Can you share the play by play of how it happened? Did you manage to capture the little bugger?

Pretty uneventful...wife was sleeping and said she felt a sting in the middle of the night. In the morning she showed me what looked like a little bite. A few hours later she was in the ER, spent the night, was released. We never saw the spider. ER physician said it was a Brown Recluse by the signs and symptoms.

Wow... I'm pretty sure I would move knowing that the suspect is still running loose. Hope things get better soon.

Are you two still sleeping on that same bed?

Getting ready to go see a wound Dr., I guess her PCP cannot figure out what is going on. Really red and painful.
Like I said, nothing to mess around with. That was wiener guy's problem. He got bit on the thigh and didnt go to the doctor for a week. By then half his bag was gone.

Wife back in hospital since Saturday. Given blood for hemolytic anemia. Brown recluse bite growing. She is being seen by radiologist for ct scan to see extent of tissue damage. Infectious disease doctor and plastic surgeon. Kind of neat that a lot of residents have been in to see the bite, I guess it is kinda rare to see the bite spread so fast/big. Will post pictures when we finally get out of the hospital.

Best of luck to both of you.

Wow, that's terrible. It's amazing that such a small spider can have such a devastating impact on the human body. Best of luck to Mrs. Shiznitttt.

Mrs. Foos would never sleep in our bed again if that happened to her.

Good luck with it all shiznitt.

And a warning to anyone that google images brown recluse spider....you'll see some nasty bite pictures.

Well Mrs Shiz is getting a picc line placed for long term antibiotics and blood. She has developed something called hemolytic anemia. I guess we have free range brown recluse spiders in our home.

So are they saying an abnormal immune response caused the hemolytic anemia? I was thinking you were generally born with the precursors, as most of this is genetic, but that outside factors could bring on onset. One of those being abnormal immune response which would also explain the spider bite and how it is acting. Of course there are about a dozen different versions including Sickle Cell which is in this family.Anyway thoughts and best wishes with you and the family.

Got to speak to some interesting people last night. The couple had been transferred from the Joplin hospital that got hit by the tornado. He said it sounded like a train was running over them. He had a lot of scratches from flying debris. Also, he said that several people were sucked out of the hospital.

 Hope she's feeling better.Have you had an exterminator out to the house yet?

Yes exterminator has been out. We are set up on a monthly schedule. But the exterminator is lime the fence along the border, it sounds good in theory but it is not going to stop all spiders from entering your home. Spitting in the wind. Since we live in a housing area that backs up to woods this will be always be a problem. Hopefully with more development it will drive the little bastages farther out.

Are there any natural predators of the brown recluse spider? Maybe lizards, snakes, lazer cats?

I do not know if I should tell you this or not.The problem with spraying is that you kill the good competitor and predator spiders and insects and thus make more room for the brown recluse spiders which are hard to kill with a direct spray; in the end this may make the problem worse.

Now that you mention it, I think I saw a scenario like this on Infested (Animal Planet). These people had super-aggressive poisonous spiders, and it actually got worse when they sprayed. On the bright side, though, at least you didn't buy a house located right on top of a den of garter snakes.

Good LORD! Now my wife is all by herself at the hospital while I sit at home with the twins. Tornado's I guess are all over the ground in around the OKC area. Good thing Oklahoma has doppler 2309932 and every other new device known to man to track weather. I guess one of the tornado's is traveling around the Stillwater area and one working it's way in and around Norman.

I am never gonna get my aflac money.!

So wife got to come home today. She is in a lot of pain, limping around, and taking a ton of pain meds. Maybe I will take advantage of her in her drugged state.

OOF! AFLAC is denying claim because the doctor said it was an insect bite (not covered), if it was a spider bite it would be covered! Good Lord!>
