Peek has surgery, will miss the season

Browns linebacker Antwan Peek suffered a torn patella tendon in his knee during Wednesday's practice and is out for the season.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel said the injury occurred on a "freak" play during practice and that Peek was having surgery to repair the tendon Thursday morning.

Peek will be placed on injured-reserve. The Browns plan to re-sign Shantee Orr, who was released last weekend, to replace Peek.

Crennel said the team hopes to have Orr signed in time for him to participate in Thursday's practice. He said both Orr and rookie Alex Hall will play in Sunday's season opener against the Cowboys.

Peek had 4 sacks last year, his first with the Browns.

I liked what I saw of Hall in the preseason and the coaching staff has said good things about him.

Shante Orr did have a very good 2005, specifically in the 2nd half while playing the same position he will here.

I doubt Peek was on many IDP teams.
