Browns Sign Running Back Back to Top

Read the full story at http://www.wwmt.com

The Cleveland Browns have signed running back Jerome Harrison, a fifth-round draft selection, to a four-year contract. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

Harrison set the single-season rushing record at Washington State as a senior last year.

Hasn't been a recent thread on Harrison, thoughts on him working into the lineup with Green/Suggs/Droughns?

Will he see some change of pace duty? What kind of long term value do you expect, if any?

I hope others are selective and we don't get a new thread on every pick signed. for putting thought into it.I remember reading he was looking pretty good for the 3rd down back role. In an offense that's roots are an 80s Giants system, that position holds more value than most 3rd down backs, for example Kevin Faulk, David Meggett and even Leon Johnson with the Jets. He could be a bye week cover in PPR leagues.

There was a recent L Suggs where could he wind up thread and if Harrison wins that job I would think Suggs is "history". For whatever reason, I feel Romeo likes Droughns and Green to be the main back and primary backup.

I have seen him play a lot ... being from Washington .... he is more than a 3rd down back. I wouldn't be shocked if by mid season he is RB2 for the browns.

Just curious, what makes you think he likes Green over Suggs? I haven't heard that much.

that'd be coolThat wouldn't be such a far fetched transition to secure 3rd down back role, then primary backup RB.

FWIW I think Addai will have to go thru that transition and so will Arrington in Zona if he's gonna "pan out".

All those Parcells+BB guys prefer durability over injured potential. At times when he comments on each I just get the feeling Romeo feels exactly as they do. Remember William busted his tail last summer and spring and went from possible cut to earning(actually earning not given a spot) a spot on the team? I think my "reading into" what Romeo says began there. He's doing that while Suggs was hurt yet again.

I think Suggs stays healthy this year. If he doesn't, his future career as a starting RB is definitely out of question. He's playing for a lot this year, and I like someone out of this backfield to emerge in a big way this year. Not sure it's Droughns, but one of these guys, with all of this potential, has to make something big happen.

I think Suggs will stay healthy this year too. But only because he'll be sitting at home all season after Harrison takes the 3rd down/change of pace role and the Browns cut him.

 :lmao: still laughing....

Anyway, I guess I'm the only one that likes Suggs a lot this year. Maybe it's like the Denver situation, where Bell is sitting on the bench last year and this year as a "motivational ploy".

Browns | Suggs will open camp No. 2; but can he remain there?

Sun, 23 Jul 2006 17:49:36 -0700

Steve Doerschuk, writing for the Sporting News, reports Cleveland Browns talented, but often injured, RB Lee Suggs will open training camp as the team's No. 2 running back behind starting RB Reuben Droughns. Suggs is the most talented all-around back on the team. Suggs can also offer more breakaway runs both inside and outside. Suggs has bulked up to around 215 pounds, costing him just a shade of his good natural elusiveness. If he stays healthy, he could be the surprise player of 2006. If he is injured again, his days with the team may be numbered.

From Q and A with Browns beat writer Tony Grossi:

Q: Hey, Tony: How do you see the battle for the Browns' backup running-back position turning out? Is team General Manager Phil Savage out of patience with Lee Suggs? - Nicholas Allburn, North East, Pa. A: Hey, Nicholas: If Suggs stays healthy, he should win it. But it's a big "if." By drafting Jerome Harrison, Savage served notice that the team probably won't tolerate another leave of absence by Suggs.

Is there any update to this in the last 10 days? Ourlads still has Suggs as the RB2 here, followed by Green and Harrison. BTW, we ought to change the title of this thread to something resembling the general Browns RB discussion that it has become.

Good call, Bri, in terms of where Crennel draws on his experiences.

Crennel didn't coach Meggett really but this is the kiss of death IMO for Suggs. Meggett(and K Faulk in NE) are underappreciated weapons by everyone but their own teams.

Browns | Harrison will be given chance to win third-down back role

Published Wed Aug 9 11:47:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Patrick McManamon, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns rookie RB Jerome Harrison will have a chance to be the third-down back for the team. If Harrison has a good preseason, it might not bode well for RB Lee Suggs or RB William Green.

Guy looked good last night. Very quick.

In the detroit game harrison saw the ball before both suggs and green and he got over 100 total yards in limited playing time

Yeah, and William Green was 2 rushes for 2 yards. As a Green owner I've been holding out hope that he'd get a shot, but this is not looking good. :(

IMO, from what I've read from Crennel, they are not fighting for the same spot. If Reuben gets hurt Green could be his backup. However Harrison is the 3rd down guy and the one to plug in for some speed every now and again. Meggett was a weapon for the Giants in addition to Joe Morris or Rodney Hampton. IMO Kevin Faulk is similar in NE. If Dillon goes down, it's Maroney but regardless Faulk's catching balls on 3rd down.

No, I understand that. What I don't get is why they're giving a known quantity like Droughns 7 carries, but are only giving William Green, supposedly his primary backup and a question mark in many respects given his lack of work in recent years, only two carries. It makes no sense to me.

It might not be a concern or as big of a concern for Romeo. IMO the biggest concern to start the year is the passing game without Braylon and getting Frye some work. Hard to tell anything yet other than what I've been saying in JJ threads for months which is Northcutt is better and more reliable than people here think.
