Browns vs Bengals - Bidding War for Luck (1 Viewer)

So now the Browns and Bengals BOTH sit with two first round draft picks in the 2012 NFL draft, and Luck at the top of the board. Both franchises need QBs. Both franchises are in the same division! Does being divisional rivals push BOTH of them into trying to trade for Luck out of fear that the other team may trade for him, putting Luck on a divisional rival for the next decade?

Neither the Colts or Dolphins would take multiple 1st rd picks for Luck. Face it, the worst team in the NFL will be keeping Luck unless that team is St. Louis. Even they may keep him and trade Bradford.

I think its obvious the Rams are the worst team in the NFL. And if they get the pick, strong possibility of trading down.

strong possibility of staying put and taking Luck too...
"buzzer sound"Just because Bradford has no time to throw and his WR lead the league in dropped balls does not mean they are looking for a new QB.

The Bengals would not have dealt Palmer, if they did not feel good about Dalton. They are sky high on the kid.....

With the rookie salary cap the team with the #1 pick (luck) would be crazy to trade it, even for 3 first round picks.
This. If Luck truly is a once every 20 year QB prospect whomever ends up with the #1 pick will not, under anything short of a team's 1st round picks for a decade, trade him... unless Luck pulls an Eli.

They just love gingers.

The Browns will not trade up to #1 for Luck. If Colt chokes this year they will take the next QB off the board. With all the giant holes on this team, they will not sell the farm for one guy, even if the guy is the most hyped QB prospect in the last 10 years.

Anyways the package it would take to get Luck would be insane. I could see something like three 1's and two 2's or something insane like that.

Is it all about the salary cap? Or is it about winning? Would you rather have Luck and Bradford on a lousy team? Or Bradford and a ton of selections to rebuild with?

Colt McCoy just doesn't have the arm. He'll probably be a fine backup QB for 20 years in the NFL, maybe even have a magical half season when the starter does down, but he's not the guy to build around.

Don't think picks would do it; if the team with the top pick wanted to trade the pick they probably wouldn't want to rely solely on first round picks. They'd probably also demand a very good young player and a 1st. Something like Joe Haden and a first or Chris Long and a first. Not that I expect to see this happen, but I do think it would require a package we've never seen before.

I'm not saying they are looking for a new QB. If the best QB prospect in a long time falls in their lap...

Neither team has enough to move up and get Luck right now. That is unless they end up in the top 3 picks as well, which I don't think is going to happen. Luck will command roughly 3 first rounders IMO. Especially for a team that is likely needing to move up 10 slots or so. Cinci really doesn't "need" Luck. They have a promising young QB in Dalton right now. Clev could certainly use him more but they have a ton of other holes as well and I don't think they would be desperate to move up and get him. There are other very good QB prospects in this class, namely Barkely, that a team like Clev would be lucky to have as well.

Another aspect of this draft that nobody seems to want to talk about is how great the Tackle prospects are. This is going to be the best group of Tackles to come out in years and that position is extremely difficult to fill in the NFL and holds massive value. That is the only reason I think there is a very real possibility that St. L, if they end up #1 overall, would trade that pick. They could see enough value in moving the pick to get one of the top Tackles or possibly their top WR.

Why would they keep both QBs?
I'm sure the Colts would at least talk trade with the Rams to get Bradford.

In order to win, you must work the cap.Bradford is entering Week 1 of his final "audition"...now he has a proper WR; if he fails, he is done in STL.

I'd rather have Bradford and a lot of picks to build with.3 first-round lineman, if they all panned out, would be worth way more than Luck.

QBs are the stars so everyone focuses on them, but even the best QB in the league would be worthless if his O-Line was letting defenders through like turnstiles. I mean, yes, Brady is an excellent QB, but it's almost ridiculous how much time he has to stand there in the pocket on some plays. This is no small part of his success.

Dalton has been very good for a rookie. Bengals wont be trading up for Luck
This.Bengals homer here. He's been everything we've expected and then some. The buzz around the organization is that he's our QB for the next 10+ years. They believe that strongly in him. He's outperformed expectations and is sitting at 4-2 as a rookie QB. What is there not to love?

:goodposting: - the kid is the goods. I was stoked when we got him and he's exceeded all expectations.-QG

Wasnt Bradford the last of the mega rookie contracts? I dont see how STL could trade him if they did want to get Luck.

Besides, I could see Dallas pulling a Ditka and trading their whole draft for Luck if Romo chokes. He loves him the big splash! Just Saying ::realizeitsnotlikely::
