Q: Could you expand on the job that Bryce Brown has done in practice?
A: I think Bryce is a pro. When it’s a difficult situation, I think that he gets out there and works extremely hard to try to get better and better each day, because the thing about it is, you never know when the opportunity is going to come. Again, inactives are a tough call when people are healthy. There are a lot of things that go into it, so you’ve got to be ready. That’s the one thing about it. There are a lot of injuries that occur. Some teams more than other, but eventually you’re going to have to make some decisions when those things happen. The one thing you can’t do, as a professional football player, is you cannot not be ready. That’s the main thing.
Q: You’ve seen him be ready?
A: Yeah. If something happened, I wouldn’t have a problem. If something happened where we can get him up, I wouldn’t have a problem bringing him up.
Q: Have you given consideration to sitting Jordan Gay and bringing up Bryce?
A: I don’t know if I would compare one player to one player, you know? I think that there are a lot of things that go into it. We have this discussion every week and then throughout the week. The other thing you want to do is when people go out there and practice and you have the game plan, you want to make sure that they’re practicing well within that game plan. If they’re not, you have to make decisions of who’s up and who’s down based on the way they practiced during the week.
Q: How much can you see his improvement based on what he’s done on the scout team? Is it easy to tell or harder to tell?
A: I think on any player what happens is you say to yourself, ‘Hey, listen. He’s doing everything he can in practice and looks good, and then you really don’t know until you get in the game. That’s the one I will say, in my experience, is that there’s been players that I’ve had. Brandon Moore’s a great example. He was practicing and practicing. Management came to me and I said, ‘Look, this is as far as I can take him. Everything else is going to be depending on how he plays. I don’t know if that answers the question. Bryce has done everything we’ve asked him to do. He’s played before, so it’s a little bit different than the Brandon Moore situation, where he hadn’t played before.
