So it seemed like there was some interest in this so let's see how it goes.

I've been working here since May. So not quite 6 months. I'll go ahead and get some easy ones out of the way.

Yes they pay what it says on the sign. My base is 21 an hour. I make 23 on Friday, 24 on Saturday and 25 on Sunday. They do have a good 401k match but you have to be there a year for that. The benefits are good and they have a pretty well rounded package. I work in the food service side almost exclusively slinging jerky. But there is a lot that goes with that. For instance today I had to make 520 portion cups divided between pretzels and almonds. While covering the counter. I also had to roll nuts for those cones you buy. Sometimes I also roast the nuts but usually only when we are preparing to be extra busy. Almost everything you buy food wise in a Buc-ees is packaged there with some obvious exceptions like the bags of chips.

So what do you want to know? I'll do my best to answer.

How big are they? I saw there’s one in Texas that’s 75k sq ft but I assume they aren’t all that big

ETA none within 300 miles of where I live

Talk to me about brisket on the board....

Is it a secret recipe, is it smoked on site?

Ftr I already have my own bucees appreciation thread

Stopped at one OTW home from Charleston, SC. Its like cross between a smaller Bass Pro/Cabellas and a WaWa/Royal Farms/Sheetz. Beef Jerky was terrible which came as a shock given the size and selection.

I did pick up a super dope picture/painting of a whisky and cigar.

Well most people rave about the jerky. Did you get the fresh jerky or the bagged stuff?

Fresh. Ain’t cheap either. We tossed it. My dog wouldn't even eat it. Lmao

I’d say that maybe we got a bad batch but she got a few flavors.

I stopped at the one south of Jacksonville last year. I think it took me 30 minutes to get on and off the interstate because of the traffic. The bathrooms were clean as advertised. I couldn't believe all the crap they sold in there.

I've had nothing but positive jerky experiences

Weird people generally love it. Sorry you got crap. Do you remember the flavors?

and I am not trying to be snarky, I literally don't know anything about Buc ees. Never been, never seen one.

I live in Texas so they're all over the place, generally in smaller towns on popular routes. It used to be just a place you stop for gas, clean bathrooms and maybe pick up some fresh snacks/food. Now they've gone viral and almost a destination for many. I don't get all the hype but the bathrooms are awesome. Also sounds like they treat the employees well so that's a huge

I tried it once. It was teh suxors

I'm waiting for the adjacent Buc-ees Motels to pop up next to the gas stations
At least a campground adjacent where you can pitch a tent

They got a captive market, they'll buy anything that beaver flashes from the interstate.

Went to one close to Knoxville. My cousin took me there and it was an adventure. I think we got fuel for his truck as well. There is one that’s opening in Vero Beach next year. I’ll make sure to pay him back when he visits Florida.

I have some rants in the buc-ees thread, but I admit their jerky is good.

Before they expanded out of the houston location I thought their food was better. There is a small buc-ees in Freeport texas that has a good selection of salt water fishing equipment, bait, and beach supplies. They only offer fried food at that location though, but who doest enjoy a pizza stick.

Numerous times over the years I would photo the pay and send it to my friends back home, it was always good.

We have a new Buc-ees in my town now (Springfield MO).

The brisket is quite good and I like their sodas too.

Not sure if anyone has tried their loony cousin, Wally's, but it just isn't as good. Similar size and bathrooms but the food isn't close to as good.

Is Buc-ees trolling by putting a billboard on the NJ turnpike? NJ’s law banning self-serve gas stations would seem to make the Buc-ees model not viable in the state.

I only went once (Daytona Beach area) and thought it was a cool store. They have plans to build one in Charlotte County FL, which only be an hour away from me. Looking forward to it.

It's like a 7-11, right? But with gas?
Today I learned there are 7-11s without gas pumps. I did not know that.
Lol I'm not sure I've ever seen a 7-11 with gas in these parts
Yep in Michigan 7-11s are everywhere and I can’t think of an single one with gas.
A lot less in my area than there used to be, but the one's I remembered in Lincoln and Omaha always had gas. Now they are all QickTrips.

Nah it's the new South of the border
Speaking of South of the Border….every time I pass it heading into NC and leaving NC it is an absolute grave yard.

I don’t know how it is still staying in business. Buccees killed them in SC.

Stopped at my first one a couple years ago on a trip to Florida. Since then, one has opened here in SC, and another in GA on the way to Florida.
Here's a question, especially since you work in the Food Service side:
My wife has Celiac Disease, therefore has to be 100% gluten free. Y'all are able to provide pulled pork that she can eat. The first time we stopped there, they got her a sandwich sized serving from the back kitchen. Since that time, they will only do it if she buys it by the pound. Why is that? Most people stopping there are travelling, and a pound is a lot to buy while on a road trip.

That was probably my store
