Buc-ee's Appreciation Thread (1 Viewer)

Chicken sandwich was also good. Brisket egg burrito is yummy .....among other things

Coffee is kind of terrible

Hit my 4th and 5th visit this week

They got it it figured out

Much better this morning with less crowds

That is all

It's a scene, man
Where you at? I know it ain't Jersey.
Was on travel to Roanoke....hit the new one that just opened on 81 in VA
That's just a skip down 81 from my house (I'm between Harrisonburg and Strasburg). The first week it opened was apparently nuts there - people coming from hours away just to go to the new Buc-ee's.

Buc-ee's SUCKS.

I HATE BUC-EE's.

On our last road trip across texas 2 weeks ago. There was stop and go traffic on i-10 for 35 miles as you were leaving san antonio. This is an interstate with a 75 mph speed limit, but we were stuck going 50mph, then dead stop, then 50 mph, then dead stop. FOR 35 FREAKING MILES.

Then we passed the buc-ee's that was so crowded the offramp was backed up for 2 miles.

Then traffic sped up to normal 75 mph hour.

That stupid super buc-ee's added 30 minutes to our 10 hour road trip and we didnt even stop there.

I hate Buc-ee's, screw them, we need to stop these super stores on the highway.

I also have a love-hate relationship with it. 2 yrs ago, my group decided drive back from New Orl to Orlando via I-10. In the middle of nowhere Alabama, there is a Buc-ees right off the interstate. Very busy, but we had no problem getting into the parking lot.

However, when we decided to leave….it took us 45 mins to get OUT of the parking lot. 👀😳 it was like trying to leave a concert or 🏈game.
I still have PTSD from that.

There's a pretty good fight going on in Palmer Lake, CO on whether or not to build a Buc-ees and annex the land into the town. The town has 2,500 residents and the Buc-ees is supposed to be a 74,000-square-foot store with 60 gas pumps, 800 parking spaces, open 24 hours a day, which will generate up to 11,000 trips a day, so it's easy to see why people are upset.

I’ve been to one off of I-10 in TX and one off of I-40 in TN. The one in Texas was getting replaced with a bigger store and while we went inside for the bathrooms and some food the line for fuel was so long that I went to a different gas station for that. The one in Tennessee I had no issues getting the gas, but inside was a bit crazy.

The bathrooms are nice and clean and the food is decent, so I have a pretty positive opinion overall and would use them again on any long trip where they were convenient. That said, I don’t understand the cult following they have at all. It’s a nice chain but not any sort of game changer imo.

Is this the Leeds location off I-20?

I think he's referring to the one just east of Mobile on I-10. It's always a complete cluster****.

Big fan of Bucees. Buts it’s an acquired taste.

There is one just north of Bowling Green which is conveniently located so that I have enough gas to get to Nashville and back as far as Bowling Green on a tank of gas - so it’s a convenient place to stop for gas. First time we went in - and it was sensory overload and I swore never to go back in. But the price of gas is outstanding- so we kept stopping.

Eventually I discovered the brisket- and now I’ll stop and grab 2 or 3 sandwiches to take home when I stop.

I am looking forward to the newest one near Harrisonburg - our older daughter is at JMU, so it will be a great place to stop for gas and sandwiches on those trips now too.

I still have yet to go to one of these places, but they are putting them in FL. Never stopped at the one in Macon, but my sister has brought me Bucky Balls, and some hot sauce. Good stuff!

Other than long checkout lines and backing up traffic (both things that I have never experienced at any Buc-ees I’ve been to, but concede that this may be location specific), I’m not sure what there is to hate about Buc-ees as a roadside stop. Super clean bathrooms, high quality freshly made food of all types (as well as an absolute mountain of junk food if that is your thing), a freaking deli counter for beef jerky, and very friendly staff. Sure they also sell a lot of schlocky stuff for tourists, but those areas are easy enough to skip.

Edit to add: Obviously if someone has sensory issues I can see it being an issue.

Bathrooms are awesome. So are the beaver nuggets. Otherwise hate it.
My son has sensory issues and feels overwhelmed in there. So when we’re there, we use the bathroom and then leave the building immediately.

I don't have sensory issues, and feel perfectly fine at a large crowded concert, but Buc-ees is still overwhelming to me. I can only imagine what a kid with sensory issues feels in that awful place. The two times we stopped on 95 they had 100+ gas pumps, and none empty because people fill up then leave their vehicle there while they shop/etc. And the lines for the bathrooms were loooong... 10-15 minutes for the guys, 20-30+ for the women.

The good part is there are usually truckstops and other places nearby that are empty.

So weird. Was this after a grand opening? I’ve never once had to wait for an open gas pump or urinal at a Buc-ees. Of course, I live in Texas where we’ve had them for decades so its not like a new theme park opening or anything.

Which Texas locations do you go to where you don't see a line.

The one leaving San Antonio to Houston is always terrible like I mentioned earlier, but the one leaving Houston towards Austin is almost as bad.

The small local buc-ees of course don't have any issues, but these are the size of normal gas stations without the tourist stuff.

That's nuts. We've never had a wait for the bathroom. Only once have we had to wait for gas, and that was at the St. Augustine, FL location, which is smaller than the other ones on the East Coast.

Mine was in south carolina on 95. I think it opened in 2022. But maybe it was an exceptionally busy travel weekend? Early May?

Re the bolded you talking about the Buc-ees in Katy off I-10? I haven’t had any problems there the few times I’ve gone. The one I hit pretty regularly is the one in Madisonville off I-45. Never had an issue with lines there despite it always being crowded. To your point though, the other ones I visit do tend to be the smaller locations.

The one in katy off i-10 is not too bad, that one does not backup traffic, I was referring to the buc-ees off 290 as you leave houston. That one backs up traffic.

That place was so much more crushed when we went than the Daytona location was.
We're close to Charlotte, one of my kids was living in Columbia at the time and the family had never been so we made a pilgrimage on a random Saturday and it was packed to the gills. No lines for bathrooms but the pumps were full and there were a tremendous amount of people there. Probably a year or so after it had opened. Think it's just the novelty in SC.

Seemed like it still is. Probably better to stop at Sparky's next time I'm going that way, but that chopped beef was great. The argument in the parking lot with the wife, less so.

For that reason alone I'd probably just head on down the road. Ain't no gas station worth fighting with anybody over, especially the wife on a long road trip.

I don’t know, their beef jerky is really good.

Yeah the whole point of Buc-ee's is I don't have to wait for gas or a bathroom. I've hit basically any one that exists on I-35 or I-45 at various points going between OU and Dallas and Austin and Houston.
