Bucs release Griese (1 Viewer)

Anyone think he has any value on the market?

I think he would be a cheaper fit for New Orleans than Brees.

As a Griese fan I'd like to see him land in DET in that offense surrounded by those weapons.

As a Boller owner I'd hate to see him land in BAL.

He's not going anywhere..... they only released him because they couldn't finish a deal before the deadline. He'll be re-signed very soon.

I think this will hold true. He knows he'll be given the opportunity to compete with Simms. The outside market is a slightly tougher than that. As other teams mostly all have their own prospects and veterans with players like Collins, Brees, and Brooks also free agents.

Not only that, but Griese knows that his best chance for success is in that Gruden system which plays to his strengths and has made him a better QB.Is he capable of leading a team to the playoffs? Definitely.

Can lead a team through the playoffs? Definitely not.

I really believe as a backup QB, he is probably the best in the game. As a starter, he is decent, but nothing special. I was rooting for Simms to get in the action since the first week of the season (and even predicted Griese's knee injury the week before it happened ;) ). Griese is too errant and takes too many uncalculated risks.

Simms, by contrast, is a playmaker. I think the Bucs feel that they need Griese though to keep pushing Simms to the next level. Griese has a very, very high football intelligence, and it will help in coaching Simms. Griese simply lacks the talent to be able to put it to full use.

Naturally, Griese wants to start, but I don't think he'll pass up an opportunity to help the Bucs get back to championship form when all is said and done.

Mostly I have heard that Tampa would like to resign him, if not that I think that the Bears will bring him in as insurance to Grossman.

Other possibilities are Baltimore or Oakland, but I haven't heard that either of those two teams have shown interest in Griese.

I think he would be an upgrade in Baltimore. If I were Baltimore, I would actually take a good look at Griese as I would Collins.

Ohhhhhhh I'm sorry you are all wrong

the answer we were looking for was

"on his dog"

we also would have acepted

"on the driveway"

He seems to be a "tweener" to me, ie not really consistently good enough to be a viable starter, but too pricey to be a backup. TB re-signing him and letting the chips fall where they may makes the most sense.

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears plan to visit with free agent QB Brian Griese (Buccaneers) perhaps as soon as the end of the weekend. If he signs with the Bears, Griese would begin as the No. 2 quarterback behind starting QB Rex Grossman, but eventually might push him for the starting job. Griese still is rehabilitating his left knee after tearing the ACL and MCL in an Oct. 16 game against the Miami Dolphins. He is expected to be ready for training camp but would have to pass a physical.

Griese is exactly the guy the Bears need. Not too threatening to Grossman, but good enough to step in and manage a playoff caliber team. Plus he's still young enough to be a viable option in the long term if the Great Grossman Experiment doesnt pan out.

Just what the Bears need...another average QB.

Might be a good move and all...but it seems the Bears are content to stick with what they have...and it simply was not good enough last year on offense to really do anything. Great defense...but just no offense. And even the defense is an injury or two away from dropping a few notches (as they did in previous years).

What's that based on? He played just as well(actually better in DEN) than he has in TB. He's played very well regardless where he's been with the exception of his 5-game stint in MIA.

Washington? They just dumped Ramsey....
They've signed Todd Collins as a 3rd stringer to help with transition to Saunders' offense. They won't be signing another QB barring injury.

He's coming into Halas Hall on Sunday. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...bears-headlines

I could live with Griese at #2.

Anyone else here think that Griese would be a good mentor to Alex Smith in San Francisco (a la Kitna mentoring Carson in Cincy)? Griese could start for most of the season as they ease Smith into the starting role.

Just throwing it out there, that's all.

:insert beer bong joke here:Griese doesn't exactly strike me as the mentoring type.
He doesn't strike me as the "franchise QB to throw millions of dollars at" type, either. It's gonna be tough to find at least a part-time starting job for him, IMO.

I thought Brees or Griese would be a great fit there. Wouldnt surprise me if he took the job and kept it. Not that Grossman shouldnt get another shot.

Don't ya think he's eaten his share of humble pie?
I don't.DEN fans acted like Griese was the lone ingredient keeping them out of the superbowl. How many superbowls have they been to since he left anyway?

Some here said they were interested in Frerotte because he was a decent QB that knew their system. Well, so is Griese. Don't ya think he's eaten his share of humble pie?
Well, one of the things they were saying about Griese when he was playing well for the Bucs was that he was thriving outside of Shanahan's offense. Now, I don't claim to be an expert on playbook schemes, but I think it's quite obvious that Griese played a lot better when he left Denver. So for him to go back would be like career suicide in my opinion.

anybody else thinking oakland?
I don't think Griese has the arm Oakland and Al Davis is looking for. Randy Moss would be pissed when he ran his 55 yard go route and Griese put it at about 45.THE 2006 OAKLAND RAIDERS STARTING QB: (ASSUMING A FRANCHISE QB ISN'T SELECTED IN ROUND 1, AKA VINCE YOUNG OR CUTLER)

Excellent, maybe Grossman will pull his groin getting out of bed or something and I'll have another starting QB on my dynasty team.

That certainly boosts Griese's value IMHO if that story pans out. He's still heading into the season as a #2 QB though.

Local reports say that Griese is close to signing with the Bears.
This could be a match made in heaven, and one that I really can't believe that the Bears didn't get done earlier.

Best part of this is that Gruden won't be tempted to stunt the development of Simms with Griese any longer.

He was quite good here, but Simms is the future.
