Bucs vs NY Giants draft slot (1 Viewer)

A paradox or perahps just a loophole exists such that Tampa gets the #20 pick next year just behind the NY Giants who pick at #19. Yet, had the Packers lost on Sunday, the Giants would have gone to the playoffs ahead of the Bucs on a tiebreaker. The Bucs lose the playoff tiebreaker, but also lose on the draft slot.

From what I understand the Bucs had the stronger strength of schedule, and that is why they pick after the Giants. Seems hilarious since many were blasting the Bucs and thier "easy" schedule. I am not a Bucs fan, but the NFL seems to have a rules loophole that they should close to get the order right.

It looks to me like the Bucs were jobbed out of the #19 pick. Agree/Disagree?

The rankings of draft slot and playoffs use two different methods. That is all.

True that. But it still seems wrong. The two different tiebreaking methods should be fair or "fairer" than what happened. It should be brought up when the league discusses changes to the rules in the spring.

The Rams should have the 20th pick because if they would have won, they would have been in the playoffs.

All the haters, slow your role. Raiderfan might be on to something here. Why does the NFL use one tie breaker for playoffs and another for determing draft slots? If one tie breaker determines which team is better, why is not uniform? Is one tie breaker "better"? - than use that one in both cases.I don't have answers only questions, sorry.

Because they already make a clear distinction between "what gets you in the playoffs" and "worst team gets the earlier pick." See: 2010 Seattle Seahawks who by the latter standard "should" be drafting around the 15th slot instead of #21, as well as every other year where teams are slotted into the 21-32 picks because they are the playoff teams.

Their records are equal but since the Bucs did just as well with a more difficult schedule then they are the better team. So, the Bucs > Giants. :( Minor differences in draft slots are overrated anyways unless your in the top 5. For example, the Bucs lost out on Suh because they were behind Detroit and lost out on Calvin Johnson/ Joe Thomas. If you suck you want to really suck.

Bucs seem to do better anywasy drafting around 20. Davin Joseph, Aquib Talib...

The Bucs and Giants will rotate between the 19th and 20th picks each round. The Giants pick 19th in the first, the Bucs pick 19th in the 2nd, etc.

Definitely not a big deal. Actually, as long as the Giants don't pick a DE in the 1st (Tampa absolutely will), then it probably works out better for the Bucs.
