Buffalo QB situation (1 Viewer)

My next round I need to grab a qb..and the only starting QB's left on the board are from Buf. Anyone heard who is leading the race?

Just who is this how guy and when did they pick him up? Where'd he play college ball? ;)

Last report I saw was JP had a nice scrimmage, but I'm not really paying much attention to the BUF qb derby. Search for the BUF preseason thread *by the guy w/ the sabre's logo iirc*, its loooooong, but probably has what you need.

All reports have JP looking good and his scrambling ability will give him the extra nudge to be the starter. I beleive he could be a decent QB.

Nall's hamstring injury has made it tough for him. I have been following this daily and there is little between Losman and Holcomb. Losman seems to have the better deep ball. The receivers have had a few drops and Evans has been dealing with a minor injury.

If I were drafting and needed to choose between the Bills' QBs, I would definitely take Losman. My full reasoning can be found here

Here is the latest official news on the situation...

QB Update

The quarterbacks did relatively well, but both were the victims of some dropped passes here and there. There were a total of three in the practice session. There were also a host of false start penalties by the offensive line which disrupted the offensive rhythm as well.

"It concerns me," said head coach #### Jauron of the penalties. "One is too many and we talked about it right after practice. You can't have penalties. Penalties will kill any team. People don't pick us to be a very good team. We've got to be almost perfect every time in what we do."

Buffalo's signal callers each had a good day for the most part. Kelly Holcomb and J.P. Losman were both pretty accurate.

Holcomb had an overthrow early in the session, but had just two other incompletions on the day, as few of his passes were challenged by defenders.

Losman had an interception early in 7-on-7. After taking a busted play further than it should have gone (a sack would have occurred), offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild appeared to have him run the play again. Losman eager to make a play threw it over the middle and James Bethea stepped in front of it for an INT.

He settled down during red zone work as he hit Josh Reed for a touchdown on a well-run route by Reed. On the next play he connected with Robert Royal for another score.

Losman again was accurate with the deep ball. During 7-on-7 he hit Roscoe Parrish on a well-timed play that stood a good chance of resulting in a touchdown as Parrish got behind the cornerback and outside the safety.

Buried deep in his own territory Losman also hit Lee Evans on a go-route deep down the left sideline and hit him for a 50-yard gain. The play drew cheers from the crowd.

Jauron gave Losman some credit for his deep ball accuracy, but feels a quarterback needs to be consistent with all his throws.

"The times that I watched him I thought he made some good throws and the ones that stand out are the deep throws down the field," said Jauron of Losman. "But you've got to have them all because those short ones keep those sticks moving and keep your defense off the field."

Losman was also effective in working the hard count during the 9-on-7 run plays. On one particular play he got left defensive end Mark Word and defensive tackle Kyle Williams to jump offsides simultaneously.

Preseason game starter at QB

With the Bills first preseason game against Carolina coming up Saturday night, head coach #### Jauron stated that he already knows who his starter will be at quarterback for the game.

"We haven't talked about it in terms of a group discussion," said Jauron. "I have thought about it. We'll start talking about it today and have some kind of idea, and we'll let you know Thursday or Friday. We'll have to see where the staff discussions go."

Jauron provided a possible hint as to who might start, although he refused to state that it would reflect how he sees his depth chart at the position.

"It just might go by seniority for this one… or reverse seniority," said Jauron smiling.

I'm assuming that this is your #2 or #3 QB (if not, you're in for a long season). I'd got with Losman if you're choosing a backup QB. He has the higher upside between Losman and Holcomb. With the battle still being too close to call, I'd go with the guy that has more upside to him. Now, if you're drafting your starter, then 1) shoot just hand over your money now, and 2) go with Holcomb.

think I agree about Losman "winning" the job, but Holcomb will start more games.

Losman should win it, given that he can throw the ball over 15 yards and is an underrated scrambler. Even if holcomb does win the job, I couldn't see him putting together anything worth using on a fantasy team. Nall is probably done in the race.

They have alot invested in Losman. I beleive this is just SHOW and Losman is the starter already. Holcombe is nothing more then a doorstop.

Under-rated? I'd say he is quite possibly the 2nd best scrambler in the league...

From Chris Brown's Blog...

QB NUMBERS: By my count and for what it's worth.Holcomb 18-22 and a sack. Losman 12-21, 2 TDs, 2 sacks, 1 INT. Holcomb had one of his passes dropped. Losman had 3 drops. I think Losman is developing a nice rapport with TE Robert Royal. He's looking for him more and more. Perhaps the time he's spent talking with Jim Kelly is paying off. Kelly used to always say whenever he was in a passing slump or having a hard day offensively the first thing he'd do is look for Metzelaars to get him back in a rhythm. Losman appears to be doing some of that himself. He did well with the deep ball for the second straight practice. It's the major difference between him and Holcomb, so if he can prove he can do it consistently it would serve him well in this competition. RECEIVER NUMBERS: Lee Evans had a strong day in his return to full action catching 5 passes including a 40-50 yard bomb from Losman. Royal, Josh Reed and Martin Nance were tied for second with 3 catches each. Jonathan Smith has cooled off a bit in the receiving game after a hot start the first few days of camp. He was not getting open enough today. Sam Aiken has seen some inconsistency creep back into his game, which has been the main thing that's kept him off the field on offense his first few years. He's got to maintain the consistency he showed in the first few days of camp. Nance got some more reps today and had some catches. Losman seems to like throwing to him. He looks for him when he's in there. I don't know what Cieslak's injury is, but he left the field early today under his own power. He hasn't been a major factor in the receiving game. He's still the second tight end, but Kevin Everett has made a lot more catches than he has in the passing game of late.
