Bulger threatens to hold out of training camp

Marc Bulger told Sirius NFL Radio Tuesday that he won't rule out a holdout if the Rams don't sign him to a contract extension prior to training camp.

Bulger says he does expect to complete a new deal before the start of camp. The Rams can't afford to let Bulger hold out as they get new faces Randy McMichael and Drew Bennett incorporated into the offense. Bulger and his agent may be attempting to force the issue to get negotiations jumpstarted. Jul. 10 - 7:04 pm et

KFFL) The NFL Network reports St. Louis Rams QB Marc Bulger said during an interview with Sirius NFL radio that he believes he will get a contract extension before training camp. Bulger also said he may hold out of training camp if he does not get the extension

Oh my goodness. This scares me. Already a level of negativity goin' on.

ETA: Bulger is usually a laid-back, quiet kind of guy. For him to announce to the public that "holding out" is a possibility is very, very surprising. If he were confident that the contract would come,... he would have remained in that "quiet" mode.

Negativity towards the front office for not signing earlier.

Dude deserves some security and compensation for the fine work he has done. If the Rams don't make this happen pre-camp, they'll be in a world of pain.

Heard the interview live and what he said was that he cant rule anything out. He didnt threaten a thing. Its a nothing story at this point.

Bulger to Roy Williams......................TD!
Oh me,... this is interesting... wow, I never would have thought.
Not gonna happen.Bulger doesn't want to holdouot and Stl. doesn't want him to. They've been working on this for awhile now. They'll get something done.
I was just goofing around there and while I have heard rumblings about Bulger & Detroit for almost a month now I fully expect him to resign with the Rams.Of course, if something happens and St.Louis dosn't lock him down then there is no doubt in my mind that Martz & the Lions would be all over him, as would several other teams.

I listened to the interview. That is not what he said. Adam Schein kept pushing him about holding out but he continually said "I am confident that we'll get this deal done." Nothing to talk about here.

Didn't Bulger's backup (Gus Frerotte) capably QB Miami a couple of years ago for then O-Coordinator Scott Linehan:

71.9 QB rating, 52% completion percentage, 2,996 yards passing, 18 TDs, 13 INTS - without the likes of Steven Jackson, Isaac Bruce or Tori Holt

Bulger would be making a huge mistake if he held out imho.

Gus Frerotte was not good that year... at all. 52% completion rating and 6.1 ypa is NOT good at all.Bulger brings some crazy good accuracy and YPA to the offense. Rams need to sign this guy.

I blame Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Chris Chambers, Marty Booker and the AFC East defenses (vs. the NFC West). ....oh, and let's not forget that when last seen, Orlando Pace wasn't protecting Frerotte's fragile neck down in Miami.....and Frerotte had a 9 yard YPA last year WITH THE RAMS = ever crazier good

Isn't holding out ALWAYS an option? Doesn't everyone say that during contract negotiations? How many top notch players actually hold out for non franchise tag reasons?

 Bulger didn't take the hold-out off the table, which he shouldn't. If he came out and said he wouldn't hold out, his agent would loose all bargaining power. The impression I got was that a deal would be done before it gets that far - that's what Bulger wants.

 I thought he signed an extension already.First LJ, now Bulger? Who's nex LT2?
Are you prescient?NFL Network is reporting Ladainian Tomlinson has told GM A.J. Smith he wants to be the highest paid RB in history. He is threatening to sit out the season, unless the deal is in place prior to the opening of training camp. The Chargers training camp opens Saturday, July 28, 2007. :P just kidding

I think he still has a full year to go on his contract.
Apologies for being obtuse in my earlier post. The point I was trying to make is that the Rams would be in a world of pain not because they'd lose Bulger this year, but because they'd hurt their ability to keep him long term if they don't lock him up now. If I'm Bulger, and I've done what I've done for the Rams for the money I'm currently making and they don't show me the respect I deserve and get a deal done, I play out my contract and hit the FA market. Then, I don't even consider the Rams unless they throw 15%+ more at me than any other offerer. Even then I might say no because I'd still be smarting from the proverbial smack in the face delivered by St. Louis' FO.The Rams need to get this done ASAP.

Any up to date news? If not, what is Georgia F. waiting for? I seen Linehan on NFL network a couple of days ago, but wasn't able to listen in. Talk to me ST. Louis homers.

I completely agree with you but what if he gets hurt in this year before Free Agency?? Personally, I think he will light up the stat sheet and have a huge year. Reality is, he could get hurt and lessen the FA payday. I love the guy and think the Rams will get this done making him the highest paid player in Rams history. We'll see....
