Bullfighting - pretty effed up "sport" (1 Viewer)

WTF are you going on about? MMA is a sport, between two people that have made the decision to train their bodies to the pinnacle of fitness. They choose to put their bodies on the line to fight each other. They are paid for their efforts.

That is in no way comparable to bullfighting. Bullfighting is animal torture for entertainment. The bulls don't get a choice.
If the bulls were given a choice, they would choose to fight. They are bulls.

As soon as a human is ready to get in a headbutt fight with a bull he has my full support.

If they are going to use swords, capes and dress like figure skaters they can go eff themselves

Yeah I find hunting much more agreeable than factory farming which the vast majority of us subsidize with our grocery dollars. There are some really horrific documentaries out there.
No, no, when you pay money for it, it's civilized.  However, shooting something is hickish.

Fishing is somewhere in between. If you pay money for someone to take you out on a boat and you drink a lot, probably okay.  If you're sitting by a river trying to find a way to eat, probably terrible.

Suppose you actually had to go out and hunt to put food on the table, instead of just buying it at the supermarket.  I'll bet a fellow would lose a lot of weight in that type of world.

Yesterday I was terrible. Kayaked and fished Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake in Colorado.  Came home with two nice brownies, four Rainbows, and four walleyes.  Got some sun, some exercise, and a couple of nice meals.  Ate the walleyes last night.  Smoked the rainbows.  Will have the brownies tonight.  Saw some hot chicks paddle boarding.  A decent day.

The deers will take over the world?
Nope, no thumbs.  Only animals with opposable thumbs or insect overlords can take over the world.  Its a hard rule, particularly on the dolphins who would otherwise rule the world with help from their whale cousins and some otter sympathizers , but that's just the way it is.  The deer remain everyone's ##### regardless.

I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said already, but the factory farms that produce our meat (beef, chicken, pork) raise the animals in horrendous conditions.  Maybe the bolt to the head the cow receives is a humane way to die, but it's about the only humane part of the cow's life.  Then your meat gets processed far away from your judgement and shows up in your Whole Foods neatly wrapped in Styrofoam so that you and the soccer moms can feel happy about your humanity.  Everyone who eats meat needs to see where it comes from and how it is processed.

The hunters I know, and I don't hunt, all shoot the animals so that they can eat them.  Unlike you who would probably eat the NY Strip and would be content throwing the rest of the cow away, these people eat everything.  The animals don't suffer if you're a good shot, and they live a good life in the wild.  I go fishing and eat my catch.  If a fish is not enough to get a meal from I release it to live another day.

Come on, the bull has horns and outweighs the human by 1000 pounds.

This is precisely why I insist on hunting all of my own beef.  That, and they're way easier to find than deer.

Ah.  You prefer your meals to have been raised in a box, lived in filth and horrible conditions, and killed with an electronic hammer to the skull by a guy named Chet.
I didn't compare bullfighting to hunting because they both involve killing animals.  I compared bullfighting to hunting because they both involve killing animals for sport, and on an unlevel playing field.

BUT OTIS WAIT A MINUTE YOU LIKE HAMBURGERS YOU HIPPOCRITE!  THEREFORE YOU LIKE HUNTING AND BULLFIGHTING!!  HA!

I am fine with either arming the deer or requiring hunters to use only fangs and claws (Prosthetics obviously), but how do we disarm the deer after hunting season?  Seems to me we are courting trouble with your proposal.

I think you had a pass until folks remembered your Komodo Dragon Skin shoes and your California Condor feather in the hatband of your baby seal fur fedora which was produced in a haberdashery staffed by third world children paid off in bit coins at three cents an hour primarily to mock them since they have no internet access to spend those coins.  You are a beast, Godfather.

That said I would like to invite you to my house so that you cannot ask when the last time was that I invited you into my home.

So you've taken one subset of hunters and made them into the reason to dislike hunting.  That makes sense.  Have you considered working for the Trump administration in some sort of Press Secretary or Public Relations role?

I see you have begun your resume work for that White House gig.  Good call.

We could pass a law requiring them to return all firearms at season's end...

...but then again, only outlaw deer would be armed after that...

...not good.

Further, F deer!

You wanna real challenge?

Try rabbit hunting!

P.S. DW, thanks for the home vid here, but did ya really have to go all beast mode?

I suppose in the same way you've taken another subset of hunters as justification for all.
I haven't.  I've used it as a justification for hunting and not for other types of hunters.  In fact, you may notice that I mentioned there are a number of ###holes who are sport hunters.  I don't support that.  But subsistence hunting I definitely support.  And necessary population control hunting, which I think would be best served by donating meat to food banks.

Of course, less of that would be necessary if there were less cattle farms encroaching on habitats, but c'est la vie.

I stop arguing when someone breaks out the Greek or Latin on me.  ;)

I always hear "level playing field" when hunting animals comes up.

What would be level?

Strap on horns and try to out gorge a bull or deer?

Swim upstream with a trout and try to nudge it out of a river?

Jump out of a tree a try to catch a duck on your way to becoming paralyzed?

I'm starting to feel really bad about all the squirrel heads that adorn my abode at the moment.

Thank Henry. :(

/sarcasm

In truth, I support this statement 100%.

If I wasn't controlling the squirrel population...

...just think of the dramatic increase in attention misdirection...

...it would become a very dangerous world we live in.

Not going to lie, I'd 100% go to the bull fight if visiting Spain.  It's part of the culture there, but I would definitely be rooting for the matador to die; makes for better entertainment.

I grew up near Horicon Marsh in Wisconsin.  I still own farmland there.  Around 1988 there was a famous house haunting that occurred there.  For those that do not know Horicon Marsh is on the route of the  Great Lakes Flyway, one of the great bird migration routes in the world. Every spring and fall millions upon millions of birds pass through with Geese among the most ubiquitous.  After the haunting there was a headline in a local paper after some geese behaved strangely and aggressively the next year.  It read Poltergeese of Horrorcon?  Thank God for hunters eliminating those bad ### birds.

I went in Seville yrs ago w my father. He had sprung for girls for us in Torremelinos (we went to what a concierge told us was a titty bar, but it turns out titty bars are whorehouses in Spain) and i wanted to pay him back and i knew the ol farmboy might like a bullfight. Even he was floored by the brutality. The blood-letting by the picadors & banderillas goes on for 20 minutes before the torero even appears. There were 7 bulls that night and everyone of them shuddered more than they stomped. Dad figured the bulls were working on less than 50% blood supply by the time of the kill. Now he's always had a pet-one-day-plate-the-next relationship with animals and i'm right behind him in sensibility if not experience, but a clean kill is the only exciting part of a bullfight because a poorly executed one is soooo ugly. But the only things i can think of more brutally stupid is bear-baiting, Mayweather/McGregor, maybe 2 Broke Girls

Interesting.

I've never hunted cheese before.

Though, after seeing all of the unprovoked brain attacks they are responsible for each fall, population control must be a very high priority.

T&P's to yours.
Some of those cheeses can behave quite muensterously.  I heard of one big wheel who felt he could have his whey with this girl, Alouette.  It was so horrible I camembert to tell the tale.
