How many times has this happened? In the NHL, a team holds onto a drafted players' rights for 2 years before they can reenter the draft. However, a common practice is to allow the team who originally drafted him to redraft that player in the round similiar to the one where he was originally drafted.RB Considers Skipping 2006?
Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports cites a "league source" who indicates that New Orleans Saints' #2 overall draft pick Reggie Bush may be considering skipping the 2006 season and re-entering the draft in 2007.

Wouldn't that be something if Bush did return the 07 draft, and all of the teams passed on Bush until NO redrafted him with their first pick?
Not allowed by the rules. The Saints would be prohibited from drafting him. I believe they could trade for him, though.Wouldn't that be something if Bush did return the 07 draft, and all of the teams passed on Bush until NO redrafted him with their first pick?
If he was planning to sit out the season from the beginning, why spend all the money on PR in New Orleans?I definitely don't think he wants to sit out. He'll eventually take #2 money. But it may be after the first game of the season is played.Say it's true and Bush is thinking about sitting out 06. Wouldn't it seem that this could've been a ploy from the beginning? He comes to the Saints, vows to help rebuild the city, donates lots of money and becomes the media/fan darling.
I didn't know that. Thanx for dropping the knowledge Maurile! Not allowed by the rules. The Saints would be prohibited from drafting him. Exactly Biz.I think this is the media swallowing Segal's![]()
Here we go... the media at it's best and getting bored with the offseason, so let's![]()
Anything is possible chris. But I'd be stunned if this happened. It would be a PR nightmare for him. He's got millions in the bank already with promo deals. He's a marketable young man that seems like a good guy. No way does he toss all that goodwill.I'd say this has less than half of 1 percent chance of happening. This really could happen! This is like John Elway saying what team he'll play for. Bush knows he could do it and make even more money, especially with the new CBA kicking in.
lol JoeI would expect the Lambs response to be "ouch. Sorry to hear that." and pass on trading for Bennett.Another angle.
I wouldn't be shocked to see the Saints have a hand in this. Because it drives up the value of their Michael Bennett.
Loomis gets to take the "We are going to have to get a ton in return for Bennett, he may be our #1 RB..."

This is ridiculous thinking. Sorry Reg, there was a good reason that you were drafted #2. And even if you think there wasn't a good enough reason, there was still a reason. If the Saints bow to his primadonna posturing now, what kind of precedent is it going to set for the league going forward? He could have made things a lot easier by agreeing to terms with the Texans before the draft even happened. Instead he seems to have bought into all the hype surrounding him since last year. For a guy that has yet to play a single down on an NFL team, he sure seems to think he has a lot of pull. Personally, before I would pay him all that money, I would be interested in seeing how he performed on a team that isn't loaded with so much talent that they are practically in a separate league from their peers. And I understand that this is an impossible scenario. So they go with the next best thing- scouting, interviews, past history, etc. And somehow, that all added up to him being picked #2. So deal with it. Who cares if you thought you deserved #1. You didn't get it, and it's time to move on if you want to start building a successful NFL career.I think the Aints just need to pay Bush somthing more than what Mario got and make the kid happy.Another angle.

I don't agree with the team caving in to a players unreasonable contractual demands in principle, however I do think Bush has the francise over a barrel on this one.Like earlier poster stated, if this hold out goes bad it could lead to New Orleans losing its team. The team really does not need any more negative press causing fan dispair and disillushionment right now. Bush has allready been working the media to get the fans on his side of the issue. This is ridiculous thinking. Sorry Reg, there was a good reason that you were drafted #2. By this do you mean the Saints will leave New Orleans and head to LA? This maybe the only thing Benson and Reggie will agree on. They would both love to see the team in LA. I can't see how it would tie with all this, but it is not possible that it's a ploy to move the team?I don't agree with the team caving in to a players unreasonable contractual demands in principle, however I do think Bush has the francise over a barrel on this one.Like earlier poster stated, if this hold out goes bad it could lead to New Orleans losing its team. Im not talking about eithics here but perception.
Quit talking about the team moving to L.A. There's no basis for that for many reasons. The team is experiencing record season ticket sales and now is the best time for them to move after the devastation that was Katrina? As for the Bush story, why is every major website ignoring it by not posting it on their pages? Not saying it isn't out of the realm of possibility for Bush to sit out this year, but let's see this for what it is.By this do you mean the Saints will leave New Orleans and head to LA? You are incorrect about Jason Cole. He doesn't write something that he doesn't have intel on...this is NOT his opinion, it is someone else'sYahoo is only reporting what Jason Cole is writing, they don't evaluate the validity of the article.Jason Cole will write anything that people will read.SORRY I have about 4$40 invested in this him right now! Dam this better be blowing smoke? But Yahoo is no small outfit and Jason Cole is pretty good....Did a 12 yr old get a hold of your login info? OMG?Anyways, no, this will not happen. Bush will be giving up MILLIONS in endorsements if he does this, and he'll destroy all the positive PR hes managed to build for himself.DON'T BE SO SURE..HE WANTED NO PART OF N.O WHEN HE GOT DRAFTED AND THIS COULD BE A PERFECT WAY OUT OF THERE! OMG!!! THIS COULD HAPPEN!Bush isnt that stupid, and Im sure his agents arent.
If he wanted out of NO, he would have been saying this after they drafted him, not RIGHT BEFORE they are going to start contract negotiations.
This story comes out every year, sometimes with multiple players, and the only thing different is the name. No one else is going to take this threat from Bush seriously, and neither should you.
Worry about a 40 day holdout, but not about him missing games.
He was also the first to break the Texans taking Mario Williams first overall....FWIWjust so this is out there. Jason Cole was the beat writer for the Dolphins/Hearld for many years. His reporting was very accurate. He did not "reach" for stories and alot of his inside information did come to fruitition. That being said, now that he works for yahoo they may be forcing him to wirte stuff to drive people to the site. The other thing is that since he did work for the dolphins, his league source may be Rick Speilman...eek
NAZI!this reminds me of Russia under Lenin or Stalin. Nice to own the board huh? You should just make every post and reply Joe. You should have also added this to your email..REGGIE BUSH WILL NOT EVER SIGN A CONTRACT THAT WILL NET HIM LESS THEN #1 PICK MARIO WILLIAMS DEAL. SO IF YOU OWN HIM OR ARE DRATING SOON BUYER BEWARE!!! Then IT would have been worth something. I guess your opinion is all the matters around here and that is the problem with this board and your whole FBG site. Jeez, I am moving to Russia maybe I can make a post there....I changed the headline on this thread to better reflect reality.
Here's what I wrote on this in tonight's email update:
J"Toying" with the idea and the idea being remotely likely are two diffent things. As the article states, Bush is in a financial position to do something like this as he's banked more than five million dollars so far with marketing deals. His agent, Joel Segal declined to comment on Friday.
My opinion is this is 100% pure media manipulation. I'd be shocked if Reggie Bush was anything but signed in the near future. A holdout is probable. That often happens with players drafted in the spot he was. But this story to me just sound like Segal playing the media.
Excuse me for making a post with my opinion included in it..i won't anymore if ever allowed again anyway..i am expecting to be banned to the goloog in Siberia now, what else should i think?
