Business sound system (1 Viewer)

My wife is about to open her own salon. I want to set up a wireless sound system for her with about 3 or 4 speakers. She would play the music from an iPad or iPhone. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

What's your budget? Wanting visible or hidden speakers? Is the goal for her to stream music wirelessly or will there be a phone/ipod tethered to the system?

Playing music from an iphone or ipad is likely to draw the ire of the ASCAP and BMI Nazis. They will insist on your wife paying public performance rights fees.

Very valid point:

When you should pay:

ASCAP sues local joints all the time:

Legally speaking, you're opening yourself up to trouble if you're not playing regular over the air radio.

Wow. I didn't know all of that. I'm guessing she would stream Pandora or Amazon Prime music. Also she would like it to be completely wireless.

Unfortunately if you read the link above, streaming services like Pandora and Amazon Prime music are NOT exempt from ASCAP's rule of tyranny. Lots and lots of folks do it... most get away with it. Some get hit lawsuits, though. Just FYI.

Depending on the size of the floor plan, you've got a few options:

• Bluetooth: If she'll be near the radio (10-15ft max) then a simple $20 bluetooth adapter will do the trick. Then you can stream anything you want from any device with bluetooth.

• AirPlay: Apple-centric system that's quite simple but limited to apple devices. Getting an AirPlay capable head unit/amp on the front end is the easiest way. Adapters run 50-100 if you use an existing head-unit without airplay capabilities.

• WiFi Speaker Systems: Heos and Sonos are nice... allowing you to easily network multiple speakers/zones and control what music is played where. They are, however, rather expensive on a per-unit basis... significantly moreso than a simple head-unit + 4 wired speakers.

• Wifi Audio Receiver: Basic DLNA or Airplay supporting devices can be had for $30-40 and will stream over any wifi network .

How large is the space/room you're trying to fill with sound?

How loud do you want it to be?

As stated above, Bluetooth has the limitations of distance from the source.. If she gets more than 10ft or so from that speaker the sound may start to cut out. In addition, I'm guessing any $50 multi-speaker bluetooth system is likely not going to sound particularly good.

In this space you very much get what you pay for.

This is starting to feel like an eminescence thread where someone asks for advice, people try to help by asking questions, and offering suggestions, then the OP ignores all the questions and suggestions and goes off to find the cheapest solution possible against the suggestions of everyone he requested advice from.

Sorry. Please don't compare me to that guy. I've been busy all day. It is about 800 square feet but the sound only needs to be played in about 500 square feet. I understand you get what you pay for when it comes to sound quality. She just wants something that everyone can hear but not too loud. It's a hair salon, so I figure just nice relaxing music. Thanks for all your help, I'm listening. She doesn't want to spend more than about 150 total for everything. The phone or iPad can be placed right next to the speaker so the 10 feet thing isn't an issue.
