C. Portis knee problems (1 Viewer)

When did Thomas leave?
The gamebook lists his injury and that he won't return during the Eagles drive that starts the 2nd quarter. I'm assuming he goes out sometime during the Skins drive that ends the 1st, but don't remember exactly.
Then it appears the Skins three runs to the right were all after Thomas left the game. In fact, all of Portis' runs to the right were in the second half.

CP will go down as one of the biggest fantasy SOD's.

1,800 total/18 TD's, and that's being cautious.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: cautious?!

we'll see ...

my $$ says he'll be on IR by week 4. And I'm not even concerned with the knee, as much as I'm concerned with the shoulder..oh, and the hand..
It's Giants week. Considering week 4 is a bye week for the 'Skins, it looks like it's now or never on your prediction.

Worst ... poster ... ever.

:P :D :goodposting: :goodposting: Not really one to pile on, but this nygiants56 guy is indeed one of the worst posters I've run across on this board.

Insider's take on Clinton Portis

A source to the Washington Redskins told us today that RB Clinton Portis' knee tendinitis "isn't all that big of a deal" and he is still running and doing all his conditioning work. "They're just trying to be extra-cautious, holding him out of contact drills and heavy 9-on-7/half-line stuff," our source said. He also added that Joe Gibbs wants Portis preserved this time around, after last year's preseason injury. Our source doesn't seem near as worried as paranoid fantasy GMs. We'll kick Portis up just a couple notches. Of course he's going to share the ball with Ladell Betts. The good news is Portis' ADP has slipped down to that 3.2 area where the LaDainian Tomlinson or Steven Jackson-owner could consider taking him after the unbearable wait from 1.1 or 1.2.

;)

I took him in the fourth based on this newsflash &v Portis sure has come in handy with B Jacobs on the shelf.

Now that we are 20 pages into this thread, and two games into the season, the thread subtitle really does not fit anymore. Every time I read it I think something new has happened.

lol..thanks for the kinds words! it was more of a tongue-in-cheek prediction about Portis going down by week four.

he's looking good so far, but he has some serious line problems now..worse than LJ has.

Now what do we talk about? :banned:
Mike Sellers stealing carries from Portis?
Sellers had a career-high four carries in Monday's victory at Philadelphia and is being deployed more as a receiver and ballcarrier.

Sellers has performed at a Pro Bowl level in recent years, but after becoming a valuable third-down and red-zone weapon in 2005, he rarely had the ball in 2006. He already has six rushes this season -- half of last season's total -- and has caught two passes. "I don't think you understand how much begging I had to do," fullback Mike Sellers said of his pleas to Joe Gibbs for the opportunity to run or catch the ball.

Time to panic, Portis owners.

Sellers was actually really awesome in short yardage a couple years back - but it was play-action dumps at the goal line, not running. Not sure that is a strong point of Campbell, but Sellers does have skills.

I think we're kind of seeing what to expect of Portis most of the time this year. Primary ball-carrier, but won't get 30 carries a game if they can help it. Will get most of the goal-line action. Looks good for about 100 yards and a TD per game, with a possible explosion every once in a while - what's not to like?

Thanks for posting a month-old news blurb so you can brag about how smart you were on draft day!

Seller is CLEARLY the short-yardage back. Portis is going to start losing TDs.

If you'd prefer, I can post a week-old comment I made about how the Redskins were going to beat the Eagles on Monday night.

He clearly was the short-yardage back on Monday Night...but I'm not sold on him being the goal line back, CP just has a knack for finding that hole. As much as I love Big Mike, I remember that near fumble he had on his only goal line carry in 2005, give the rock to CP.

 I think he's a 3rd and 4th down option outside the red zone, more so than the typical FB who gets the occasional surprise handoff like Moose Johnston used to do, but I think he'll get used far less around the goalline in that regard, and may in fact be used more there as a play-action receiving target as was done a lot in 2005. That's hunch, BTW, as I've never heard anyone squarely address that issue.

Sorry, I was using  in an effort to continue to feed the panic.

Concerning Sellers as a possible GL vulture:

At the end of the first half, when Washington was on the one yard line and spiked the ball to stop the clock, Portis was in there on 2nd and goal from the one. Then the false start poured in, and they threw to Cooley.... but Portis was in there at the one.

Just a FYI.

Also, anyone on the Betts train figuring he would be more of a factor were quite wrong.

Portis is tied with LT for the second most rushing attempts this season at 280. Betts is in 53rd spot with 78 touches behind the power houses like K. Keith and M. Morris and C. Brown. Betts is what he is a good back up RB.

:lmao:Actually, it was just the fact they played the Giants last night that made me remember it. :notebook:

Portis through 14 games on pace for the following

320/1236/9

43/359/0

363 touches

1595 total yards

9 total TD's

pretty good for a guy whose career was about over

 Pretty much nailed it.I'm wondering what "problems" #26 will have next offseason and if there will be another 20 page thread about it.

to all the people who doubted portis and projected betts to be the man in 2007 :lmao:

to the people that stayed the course and drafted portis during " tendonitis gate "

I bailed on him prior to the season, and regret it a little. Just got scared, as I had him in both leagues, and was very Betts-leery.

Threw him back into the auction in a limited keeper, where he went cheap (17% cap), a little less than his keeper value would ahve been.

Traded him and Betts and Steve Smith for Larry Johnson and Randy Moss in my dynasty league. (Moss makes that one a little better, at least.)

As a Cowboys fan, I'm really bummed now to see Portis doing so well. He's pretty good, still youngish at 27, and he really does well when that offense is clicking on all cylinders. Todd Collins. Who knew?
