C. Portis knee problems (1 Viewer)

Portis brings a LOT more to the table than Betts in regard to how a defense prepares. Far more speed and a need to ensure Portis does not get into the secondary and/or outside because if he gets there, it is likely no one will catch him.
that's actually only 1 reason you've given, not 2, and definitely not "a lot."
Do people really believe Betts is as good a back as Portis? He is good, and he would be productive if he were the starter and sole ball carrier, but Portis is one of the leagues most talented backs. Betts is, well, good.
Why not? Let's say Portis's injuries continue to affect him and what we saw from him last year is what we get going forward. Last year:Portis 4.1 ypa

Betts 4.7 ypa

Portis 7.6% dvoa

Betts 7.2% dvoa

So, going back to the table metaphor...I wouldn't mind reading more about the differences between the 2 backs and perhaps how everyone - or if anyone - would project Portis other than (a) he's going to be awesome and win everyone's leagues for them, or (b) he's going on IR; his career is over.
What about the 2.4 YPC Betts has this pre-season... and the 9 Fumbles in 2 season (including the 6 he had last yr)... Betts is back up material; Washington know this. If Portis wasn't so important, do you really thing hed be badied liked this. What Betts did last yr is an example of what Saunder's scheme brings to the Table.... a 100% / Mid-season Portis is Top 5 RB.

"I got hurt making, probably, one of the best form tackles of last year. Just so happened it didn't count."
:drive: classic.
It's comments like this why I don't take Portis interviews too seriously unless I actually see them. Even then, I don't put too much stock in them. If you just read a Portis interview, you won't get a real feeling on how serious he is. Here, he is obviously being funny. But, it's amazing how people take a comment from him, like what percentage he is, and think it actually means something. Portis is a goofball. He wore costumes for interviews for crying out loud.If he's starting, I assume he's pretty darn healthy.

Pretty sure this is accurate. Yes, Portis at 80% is better than Betts at 100%, but quite honestly--I don't think Washington would risk reinjury if it was a real possibility with a decent backup waiting in the wings.

Got him last night at end of 4th round behind

Parker

P Manning

S Smith

got deion branch as wr 2 or berrian

very very happy. If portis is healthy this looks mighty good

Really struggled as to whether this was like dominick davis and portis was just done, ultimatley i think he is fine and this will be a great move. I could have played it safe with jacobs or a green there but i swung for the fences

how many teams, and what draft slot?

there's half a page dedicated to the goodness of bacon. and i am 100% OK with that. I heart Portis and bacon.

Redskins | Portis practices Wednesday

Ryan O'Halloran, of the Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 5.

This is what it has become for CP owners? :rolleyes:Even the Redskin fan stated "can't believe".

What the pessimistic-(paranoid?)-when-it-comes-to-the-media Redskins fans can't believe is that a 'Skins player got a positive note from a national correspondent. That had nothing to do with what 'Skins fans think of Portis or his physical condition. And yes, I think 'Skins fans outlook on that gets ridiculous at times.

CP will go down as one of the biggest fantasy SOD's.

1,800 total/18 TD's, and that's being cautious.
:goodposting: :goodposting: :lmao: cautious?!

we'll see ...

my $$ says he'll be on IR by week 4. And I'm not even concerned with the knee, as much as I'm concerned with the shoulder..oh, and the hand..
Name your stakes. I will gladly bet you anything that Portis will not be on IR by week 4.
So are you interested in betting??? Or are you just too scared to put your money where your mouth is??

good read on Portis - would you guys roill the dice on Portis even if another team had Betts?
I just drafted in my redraft league this weekend. I took Portis and never even thought twice about picking up Betts. Of course it helped that I also landed Maroney, McAllister, Foster and C. Taylor. Betts actually went before both Foster and Taylor. There is no way in hell I would take Betts over starting NFL RBs. I don't care if they are in RBBC or not. Betts will need an injury to see any significant work. Draft Betts after the starting RBs are gone. Thats what I say.

I believe today is Portis' media day. So, we should hear from him after practice this afternoon. Not that I expect to hear anything convincing either way.

I will officially start worshiping the guy if he comes out in a costume involving crutches or a wheelchair.

Just got this in a DraftSharks email:

** RB Clinton Portis (knee tendonitis) has been practicing all week. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter said “Clinton looks like he’s raring to go and knowing him, he should have a big game against the Dolphins.” Schefter has been out-scooping ESPN for two years so these little remarks carry weight coming from him. Or then again, maybe Schefter is a Portis-owner and let his heart speak too loudly there.

Asked if he feels anything in his knee when he goes cuts and goes side to side: "I don't feel nothing." Said he's been part of four full practices with no limitations and feels nothing.

[nygiants56]This is a double negative.

So he's got no feeling in his legs? That can't be good.Just kidding. Good news for Portis. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should play him against the Dolphins over Adrian Peterson vs. the Falcons. I'm still leaning towards Peterson as I think it's a much better match up.

"Sunday, September the 9th. Fed Ex Field. Washington Redskins. Miami Dolphins. Clinton Portis will be there."

 For those who aren't going to listen to the interview, that was CP's response to when was the last time he felt 100% before a game.

Yeah, that's the guy I referred to as "dude" this morning. That's the quote, thanks.

I am not "betting" Portis will be on IR by any certain time, but i wouldn't be suprised if he made it there at some point. Even if Portis doesn't get hurt, he will not even get 75% of the carries this year due to how well Betts performed last year and the fact that if they do have a shot, they will need Portis healthy at the end of the year and into the playoffs. just mho

I think Peterson is going to be a stud, but with Chester there and given the fact that this is Peterson's first pro game, I don't know how you don't start Portis, especially when he's rarin' to go to prove all of the doubters wrong. Peterson's still learning the little things which figures to impact his playing time for the first few weeks. Just my $.02.

Betts posted significantly better numbers behind the exact same line. Maybe Betts isn't "really good  ", but then what does that say about Portis?

Betts is not a bad back, he is not the homerun threat Portis is. However, I still see Betts taking atleast 25% of the carries this year.

We shall see soon enough.

LT didn't get 75% of the carries last year. In fact, most RB's don't get 75% of the carries. Why should that be an issue? Did 75% just sound like a good #?

75/25? Awesome!

The decision between Portis and either Green in one league, or Caddy in another is suddenly become difficult.

Not sure what scoring method you use but in my league in the games Portis played in he averaged 2 pts a game more than Betts.

Portis posted 4.1 yds per carry and 7 TDs. Betts posted 4.7 yds per carry and 4 TDs. I wouldn't say that is significantly better. Particularly since when Portis was starting Brunell was the starting QB, Campbell was the starter for a large portion of the year when Betts was starting.Basically Portis posted almost similar numbers with a O-Line that hadn't quite started to gel yet, and a worse QB.
