C. Portis knee problems (1 Viewer)

John Jansen appears to be out for the year. The Reskins have a quality backup in Wade; however, this can't help Portis's/Betts value. It may hurt it over time. Jansen has faded in the last few years, but he was still solid. It's never good to lose a quality OL.

 They actually ran better in the 2nd half than the 1st half

 Moreover, Wade wasn't even active. They put rookie UDFA Stephon Heyer (Maryland?) in there and he looked good. Heyer was the guy who filled in for Samuels at LT during the preseason. BTW- Kendall was a beast yesterday. Their runs to the left were often devastating, and Kendall was often at the second level of the defense flattening someone. Love that trade.

next week you'll see Portis get 22-27 carries IMO. Gibbs knows what he has in Portis, and when they watch the film, it will become even more apparent that Portis has another gear that Betts never will. Not to mention he's a better pass protector. And I'll argue he's just as good at catching the ball. Top 5 season is VERY possible for Portis IMO...

Now that he's proven he's healthy, do we think Portis's load will increase from here?
I think one more week. But if people think Betts will just completely lose all carries they are mistaken. While Portis is a much better RB, Betts is still a solid NFL RB and will give Portis breather throughout the season.

Absolutely. As I said above, the ratio of carries between Betts and Portis yesterday was weighted as much towards Betts as you figure to see all year barring injury. I think that ratio will gravitate towards 65-35 or so at worst, in Portis' favor obviously.

Just to add a little more...

Portis had a few test done on his knee today and everything came back negative.

Did you mean to say that Portis had a "new test" done on his knee OR that Portis had a "few tests" done on his knee? The former could simply be a precautionary measure while the latter would seem to suggest that there was some level of discomfort experienced by Portis which led to utilizing a battery of tests to try to determine what's causing that discomfort-- which is potentially a far more ominous scenario.

I meant to say "few" but that doesn't necessarily mean the radio report I heard said "few," "new," or "blue." I was just paraphrasing something I heard a couple hours before I actually posted it.Simply put, he went to Redskins Park today, had some sort of evaluation(s)/test(s), and there were no problems. Nobody seems concerned about his knee.

So when you say his "knee", you mean they didn't do any tests on his hand or his shoulder? Because if they're not testing his hand...Ah, forget it...just being sarcastic.

I'm just a happy Portis owner who really appreciates all the updates! :lmao:

If nobody was concerned with his knee, nobody would be doing tests on his knee.

Well, it was a few tests, but most of us are questioning what knee condition could be analyzed by a rectal exam. That seemed excessive.

CP will go down as one of the biggest fantasy SOD's.

1,800 total/18 TD's, and that's being cautious.
:suds:  :lmao: cautious?! :hot:

we'll see ...

my $$ says he'll be on IR by week 4. And I'm not even concerned with the knee, as much as I'm concerned with the shoulder..oh, and the hand..
It's Giants week. Considering week 4 is a bye week for the 'Skins, it looks like it's now or never on your prediction.

:drive:

Worst ... poster ... ever.

After two weeks, CP is on pace for 272 carries, 1336 yards, 4.9ypc, 16 TDs...not bad for pick 4.10!

:P

eta - This would place him at #8 in terms of '06 RB production

Negative?! :homer: Oh, wait, that's good.
[Otis] Negative tests are ALWAYS good. [/Otis]
I really don't remember posting this. At all. And no, I wasn't drunk. What the hell?
That's probably why it was so funny. Time to change your password. ;)

Portis TDs with Al Saunders = 1, 2, 1, 0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1

Those numbers include three games where he didn't play more than half the snaps.

Portis' TDs/touches ratio in three stages...Denver - 1/20.5Washington (pre Saunders) - 1/42.5Washington (Saunders) - 1/19.9It's only 10 games (vs 29 games in Denver), but Portis' TDs/touch ratio has been slightly better with Saunders than it was in Denver.

You guys gotta admit the injuries to Jansen and Thomas are a bit worrisome
Yes, especially Thomas. That guy's a beast and doesn't get enough attention leaguewide. He's great pulling and blocking in space, which is the kind of play that Portis loves to run. Still, Wade has shown he's starting caliber at RT, so I'm less concerned. We'll just have to see whether Fabini can hold up into December when Thomas supposedly will be able to return. They may also sign Keydrick Vincent to fill the RG spot.

Against Miami:Left – 5-47-1Middle – 1-7-0Right – 11-44-0Before Jansen left, they ran 4 times to the right and once to the middle (none to the left). After he left, it was 5 to left but still 7 to the right (none to the middle).Against Philly:Left – 9-40-1Middle – 5-15-0Right – 3-14-0When did Thomas leave? They appeared to switch from right to left between the two games, but it could just be that they game planned to run right on Miami and left on Philly because of what they believed about their respective defenses.Obviously the injuries are a concern. But, they’ll just have to become a left-handed running team. They’ll need to sprinkle in some stuff to the right, of course, possibly pulling Kendal and/or Samuels from the left.
