Cabin In The Woods (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone,

Just got back from seeing Cabin in the Woods. I'm a sucker for horror flicks, so I was already seeing this one. Been caught in red tape for a few years, they finally released it today. It's probably the best horror flick I've seen in years. Scary when it needs to be, funny as hell when it needs to (Joss Wheadon wrote it), and the last 20 minutes are probably the most fun I've had in watching a movie in ages.

as I posted in the recently watched movie thread...

DO NOT READ ANY SPOILERS ABOUT THIS MOVIE.

After this weekend, there are sure to be spoilers all around. Do yourself the favor and go check this movie out. The chicks are hot, the scares are good, the jokes are funny, and the ending is just AWESOME.

You will not be disappointed. I NEVER go see a movie twice while it's still in theaters. I already got tickets for tomorrow night to take my nephew.

It was good but think expectations are getting a little too high.

Last 20 minutes rocked but first hour was decent only due to the few Whitford scenes. Thought the movie could have been served with another 10-15 mintues of character development and pacing. Everything seemed rushed at times. A lot going on within a runtime of only 1:35.

2.5 out of 4 stars.

Same here...you wouldn't happen to be going to The Olive Garden for dinner afterwards like we are?

It was pretty good. Some good gore, laughs, and WTF moments. My girlfriend figured out the 'secret' about 40 minutes in. Seeing it in a packed theater made it more fun I think.

The Cabin In The Woods...After reading the early reviews, mostly from here, I was convinced I had to see this now. It only needs 1 word, Awesome. Glad I saw it without seeing the trailer. While Im not sure how much that gave away, the few commercials I saw kept it very minimal all things considered. The slow reveal of reasoning behind the organization is timely, and the end result was still surprising and great. Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford were cast perfectly, and after seeing it, I dont think I can picture anyone else in those roles (Jenkins possibly deserves getting nominated for this over The Visitor ;) )...At first I wasnt sure if I bought into the stoner guy (seemed over the top at first), but he was a great character. Only complaint is that when #### gets chaotic in the end, I wish they extended it an extra 10 minutes somehow. Time will tell if this becomes the horror movie of this era or remembered as much, but it deserves to be. I highly doubt it will be huge on a Saw or Scream level, but it should be. An undoubtable cult classic that I hope gets more recognition now/early...As far as horror goes, an easy...5/5

What was the 'secret'?!>! I cant think of any that were reasonable after 40 minutes. Please reply as a
so those who havent seen it yet miss out
Only complaint I have is the the chaos in the end wasnt 10 minutes longer so we didnt get to see more crazy gory action

She basically guessed what the organization was doing. Edited out the spoiler.

I figured out the whole sacrifice thing in the opening credits when it was showing old drawings of sacrifices.
I enjoyed the movie, but I think its getting a little too much praise.

I walked in the theater right after that I think. The only credits I remember were rolling when Jenkins and Whitford were walking to the control room and talking. Maybe that wouldve made a difference, I dont know, but most of the movie I figured they were a company that sold their "movies" to high end clients, sort of like a Hostel type thing but different. Considering there are no gods at the core of the earth, I find it hard to believe anyone really figured everything out without just making a blind guess.

:shrug:Her exact words were "I bet they have to make sacrifices to some ancient gods or beings to save the world from ending or something". Between the opening credits, the painting, the blood spilling into the big slates...A few questions I have:Towards the end, the stoner and virgin realized the jock didnt have a cousin. So why did he think he did? (it was supposedly the cousins cabin) The organization couldnt have just made up a cousin and have him believe it. The other countries they were showing on the monitors, were they doing the same thing the organization was doing? Like each country had their own version of it? And as long as any one country could make the required sacrifices, the world could rest easy for another year? What was the significance of the Japanese kids defeating the evil spirit? It didnt have any impact on the story.I wish it would have gave more background on the organization and told how they came about capturing all of those monsters.

The significance of the Japanese kids is that most of the time when you see a Japanese horror flick is it has little girls getting haunted/killed etc. That's their stereotype. They overcame the evil spirit, so their event failed. Germany failed, Stockholm failed, and other failed. If one of them would've succeeded, then it didn't matter if the U.S. failed. When they noticed that all of the other countries failed, they felt a lot more special. Only one country had to succeed. I also think that the if the hot red head would've died, they world would've been saved because she wasn't a virgin, while the stoner I think most likely was. A nice little twist they could've used. When she hit the PURGE button and all of the beasts/ghosts/demons came out, I was grinning from ear to ear. I had it figured out the the point that the kids were sacrifices, I didn't know why they were being sacrificed.

I haven't been to the show in a long time. But as a fellow TWD fan I'm going to take your recommendation.

Okay, we saw it today and it was pretty good. As posted earlier, I would have really liked about 10 more minutes of carnage at the end there.

The blond girl was very, very hot and sexy. It was refreshing to see two pretty much unknown, female leads.

The wife and I both give

Was going to wait for DVD on this movie, but broke down and saw it today – LOVED it. Just a really fun, clever movie that didn't take itself seriously at all. I wonder what the hold up was in getting it out, I know it was in limbo for a long time. Getting money for the FX is all I can figure...

Seems like studios have a hell of a time marketing these things. Drag Me To Hell was a similar movie that kindof went down the same path.

It was held up for so long because the studio wanted to do a 3d transfer and Wheldon fought the process. They finally just said screw it and released it. It was filmed and finalized at almost 2 whole years ago.

"Am I still on SpeakerPhone??" :lmao:

Absolutely LOVED this movie. I was actually rooting for the kids...

Loved how Bradley Whitford got it in the end.

Going back tomorrow night to see it again

I'm not into horror flicks. I rarely see them. But, I did go see this film today. Awesome!! It was really entertaining, and probably the most laugh out loud moments I have ever seen in a horror movie.

I liked this movie very much. I also wish it had another 10 minutes of carnage. I figured it out when blood poured into the forms.

Good flick. I was entertained and I can not ask for more then that. I did not anticipate the comedy and it was very funny.

Wow I am the minority here. Went and saw it with the wife over the weekend based on many reviews (not just here) and I absolutely hated it. However, the wife like most of the FFA loved it. To each their own.

saw it last night. the version i saw was hard to see in some parts but from what i did see i liked

The speaker phone joke and the railroad joke were the only things I liked. I otherwise hated the movie.I also saw "The Tree of Life" this year. That film had absolutely zero redeeming qualities so "The Cabin in the Woods" will at least not be the worst film I saw this year, so it has that going for it which is nice.

Loved it. Those expecting to get scared will be disappointing.

And that blonde was hideous. Yuck! Like a beat version of Linda Cardelini...

All in all a very good and original movie.

The Russian entry. Genius. I hope that on the Bluray/DVD release they include a few of the other countries' entries.

Good: Funnier than expected, fun to watch

Bad: No scary, creepy, or suspenseful at all. I was hoping for some sort of mystery/twist.

I'd recommend it, but I was expecting more. This movie is getting WAY overhyped. If I had gone into the theater without catching the hype first, I would have be very pleasantly surprised. It's basically one of those cheesy movies that are made for the Sci-Fi channel...except a little better.

Save the $10 and wait for it to show up on Netflix or Sci-Fi.

So because a lot of people like the movie you're downgrading it? If you would have been pleasantly surprised would you have recommended it? I think you would, but guessing you're going to say no. I don't remember the last time I went to the movies before seeing this and was happy I did see it.

Closer to this. Decent... lot of cliches. The ending is entertaining but not nearly the twist the OP portrayed. 7 out of 10 for intrigue/comedic value. Above average but nothing groundbreaking.
