I’ve got a problem that I don’t understand and haven’t encountered before. After replacing the toilets, they all leak.
It’s an older home built in 1966.
The drains/flanges are cast-iron, not rusted out and in good shape.
i’ve replaced the wax seal on one of them several times, even tried one of those rubber “better than wax seals” and it still leaks.
I had a plumber come out and he said I needed to double up the wax rings, which I had already tried but he did it and had the same result. They still leak.
The plumber did remark that he has never seen flanges that big. He said they were designed for older toilets that had four bolts.
His solution is to bang out the old flange and replace it with plastic which I’m fine with however If there is another fix I would love to know. I really don’t want to tear open ceilings and floors to get to these flanges. This can’t be the only time in history that this is happened.
