Just curious. Can you elaborate on this for me? I really enjoy the Roundtable Discussion and saw your comment on your current top players by position. I am really suprised by your RB list. I have Portis and though I am happy with what he has done thus far - I am bummed at what appears to be the Redskins approach to RBBC. It looks like he will rarely see 20 carries and isn't getting many passes either.

Thanks

Off the top of my head without doing any research, I would say that it is a fact that RBs are more productive in general (yards per carry) when placed in a RBBC situation. They stay fresher and the change of pace between the different RBs keeps the defense off balance. Michael Turner and Lamont Jordan are/were two long term backup RBs that have been ultraproductive as a change ofpace/RBBC and helped their starter into the fantasy top5 because of increased production. Portis has been converting TDs, and running well, so what is the worry? You drafted this guy as a later RB#2, possibly a RB#3 and he's performing like a RB#1.

Portis had the same number of carries in weeks 1 and 2, but if you're trying to assess RBBC I think it's important to look at percentage of team carries.Week 1 saw Portis take 41% of the Skins carries, with Betts also having 17 carries. Week 2 saw him take 51% of the Skins carries, and that was with 6 rushes from Campbell, which for the most part were passing plays that he scrambled on (if you consider all of those were passing plays to begin with then Portis carried the ball on 63% of the Skins running plays). Betts only had 6 carries week 2. Week 2 is much more indicative of how the rest of the year will play out, from a carry percentage standpoint, IMHO (in my homer opinion).

Also, the Redskins didn't have the ball much in the 4th quarter this week. Portis' TD, with 12:00 left in the game, was his final carry. Philly put together a 5:32 drive after the Portis TD. When the Redskins got the ball back, Betts started the drive and they went three and out. Then, Philly went on a 3:47 drive, followed by two Campbell kneel downs. Under slightly different circumstances, Portis could have easily reached 20 carries Monday night. I know, the circumstances weren't slightly different, but I think you have to look at why he only had 17 carries.I think Portis is a GREAT play this week.

You're referring to his comments in the draft. Marc was drafting from the 2.06 slot in a ten-team draft, so his statement that his "top players right now are: Shaun Alexander, Edgerrin James, and Clinton Portis at RB" was referring to the top players still available at 2.06 in that draft. Guys like Tomlinson and Addai were already off the board.
