Calvin no 1 overall? (1 Viewer)

Given his separation from the rest ofthe wrs, and reports that teammates expect him to actually improve on his numbers, plus a crap defense and the hottest rising star at qb in the league, is there a case for Mega at #1 overall?

I say no. I think the separation of the top RB's, QB's and TE's will be more than the separation Calving gets at the WR position.

You have a point. I think the biggest seperatation is in the TE position. You have Gronkowski, Graham, then about a 40% drop then Hernandez. Of course both TEs do have some competition for targets probably moreso than Calvin. I have the first pick in a league and I am going Rodgers. But I'm a Packers homer so that's the obvious pick for me.

Good poinwhat if he goes for 2k and 20 though? Potential is there.

WR's are deep. The elite RB are very shallow. You can take a rb 1st, and then at your 2/3 wraparound, if you want wr's you'll have 2 studs sitting there for you.

I would take him number 5 after Foster, McCoy, Rodgers, and Rice. just my 2 cents
I'd take him before McCoy but agree with the rest of the list. Anywhere in the top 5 and you are stylin this year. The 6 pick is the tough one. I think a case could be made for Rob Gronkowski there.

In a dynasty, yes. In a redraft, I agree with most of the general thoughts here, as I would consider him at 1.04 at the earliest.

I just took him at 1.01 in a startup PPR, and am not looking back...

If you think Gronkowski is going hit 1300 yards and 17 TD again in 2012 I have some beachfront property for you in Nebraska.
He's got as good a chance of doing it as any of the wideouts do. And the dropoff to the next guy after Gronk and Graham is huge. If he put up 1300 OR 17 tds he'd be worth the pick just for the huge advantage he gives you.

I have a Superflex auction coming up with 3 big Lions fans. I am nominating him right away. I figure he goes for $70 minimum (200 cap).

I hope I am not giving away subscriber info here, but when faced with a question like this, I always like to mock it to see what I may end up with. In PPR, the ADP if you pick first in a serpentine 12 teamer, would give you the following:

1.01 Calvin

Then a slew of WRs to choose from including Nicks and Jennings (there really are no decent RBs, and your best shot would be S-Jax...of course this is assuming it goes by the book). I doubt anyone is going to go WR-WR-WR from the 1 spot, so maybe you go Calvin Jennings and S-Jax.

On the flipside, you could go Foster, Jennings and Nicks (or maybe even Welker) and have a much more balanced base with a lesser drop off at WR.

Now, I will be the first to say that in my PPRs, WRs go MUCH earlier than the typical ADPs, but there is also a slew of about 4-5 guys to choose from in the 2nd/3rd round turn.

Obviously drafting is very dependent on scoring system, but for the most part I think it's a huge mistake to take a WR or QB in the early portion of the first round this year.

The positions are deep. I think RB is the key. However if you can't get a top 3 guy, the dropoff is pretty steep.

Yea, it's been a while since I went RB/RB in the beginning of a fantasy draft but seems it might be the strategy this year. I didn't like my rosters at all when I took a WR early in mocks.

Interesting. I haven't done any mocks but have a big dynasty startup auction in a week. I was thinking of all but abandoning the RB position and just shooting from the hip on guys. Cecil made a good point on the podcast a week ago, he said you can always find that McGahee type of guy who can get you by for a while whereas a guy like AJ Green (I think) doesn't come around.
