New York Jets are showing interest in free agent Adalius Thomas, league sources told ESPNNewYork.com Sunday.
Thomas, 33, was released April 26 by the New England Patriots and hasn't drawn serious interest on the free-agent market. The Jets probably will bring him in for a workout to see if he's in shape. As of midday Sunday, the chances of signing him appeared about 50/50, according to one source.
Thomas played under Rex Ryan from 2000 to 2006 with the Baltimore Ravens. He spent three seasons with the New England Patriots, but his production declined and he was released this spring. In 14 games last season, he recorded only 34 tackles and three sacks. He also fell out of favor with coach Bill Belichick.
Without Pace, the Jets will start Jason Taylor and Bryan Thomas at outside linebacker, with unproven Jamaal Westerman coming off the bench. They could use an experienced backup like Thomas, who knows Ryan's system.

New York Jets linebacker Calvin Pace will undergo foot surgery on Monday in North Carolina that could sideline him four to six weeks, according to league sources.
Noted foot doctor Robert Anderson will perform the surgery on Pace, who was injured Friday night. The Jets will not want to make any final determinations on Pace's availability until after the surgery. But the preliminary prognosis of Pace's injury is that he will miss four to six weeks.
Jets coach Rex Ryan had said Pace could miss a few weeks and a New York Daily News report said Pace would six weeks with a broken foot.
But the Jets want to wait to see what Anderson thinks before making any definitive declarations on Pace's status.

Pace, who went down with an injury in the third quarter of Jets' preseason loss to the Redskins on Friday, was out for the first four games of last season after being suspended for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.
Ryan has said Jason Taylor -- signed as a free agent this offseason to be a situational player -- will take Pace's outside linebacker spot in the starting lineup.

Ryan did not know the exact nature of Pace's injury when he met with reporters after Friday's game. Pace was seen walking around the Jets' locker room wearing a walking boot, but through a team spokesman declined to speak with the media, saying he would address reporters later this week.
Pace is the Jets' best pass-rusher. In 2009, he recorded eight sacks in 12 regular season games after the Jets started the season 3-1 in his absence. Pace has said his suspension was a result of an over-the-counter dietary supplement he took, unaware it contained a substance that violated the NFL's policy.
"It's a big loss, there's no doubt," Ryan said Friday. "But we're fortunate. We have a lot of depth at that position."
