Seriously what is this guy doing as a head coach ? Miami should have hired Shotty Cam's old Boss !
A. Drafts Jinn in 1st round - a player he already knew had zero chance of being anyhting more than 3rd wr but more likley 4th behind Hagan. So People thought he would be the Special teams guy who return kicks and be another Devin Hester. Genius Cam has Ronnie Brown doing return Duties ! They pass on Quinn who at least so far has looked like a rsing star QB when he gets a chance and a player who could have made an instant impact like a top defender. WOW
B. Drafts Booker in the 4th and it looks like he won't ever even see the field another totally wasted Pick.
C. Trying to demoralize his only real offensive star in Ronnie Brown having him return kicks and telling him he might be the #2 back behind a guy who hasn't played in 2 years becasue he ate himself out of the league !
What is with this guy. Is Miami trying to move the team to a different city and Cam was brought in to make them as bad as possible ?
It's obvious you have little to no clue but here goes anyway.A. His name is spelled Ginn. He has already passed Hagan on the depth chart for #3 WR
BEFORE HIS FIRST NFL SNAP He is already returning punts. Quinn has looked like a rising star? It's preseason and he hasn't played against any first or second string defenses yet.
B. Booker will be the third down back this year, not a wasted pick.
C. He is not trying to demoralize Brown, he is trying to motivate him.
Right on!Not to mention the fact that John Beck has looked every bit as good as Quinn has so far in their very short careers defined by playing in preseason games against guys who will be bagging their groceries in a few weeks. They got Beck in the 2nd round instead of 9th overall.
How can there even be a worst coach of 2007 when 2007 has not even started yet. This thread should be blown up.
cmon! I disagree. I am going to give him a shot during regular season, but all his moves thus far make me scratch my head. He can't be putting R. Brown on kick returns, that is just not a smart move. I am a PSU fan and know how good Ginn is in that role, get him there. If anything put Booker back there. Booker is not a sure fire bet to be third down back. Listen to his press conference from Tues. Cam said he will play the "F" position, he will play some wideout and do some things there to help the club, and then he ends it by saying he may even play some RB. So I don't think that says he is a sure bet to be the third down back. He actually acted like Cobbs would be, for whatever reason. Chatman is not a starting back in the NFL, Ronnie Brown is a three down back, and hopefully he plays that role. I hope Cam does motivate him a bit, but Ronnie still needs to step up, but make no mistake about it, he is the Miami Offense!
So what do you disagree with from my post? Your points are valid, but they are not counter-points to anything that I posted, unless you actually think that it is fair to call Cam the worst coach of 2007 before week 1.I am a Fins homer, and I can tell you that you may wind up hating Cam, but it is very possible that it will not be due to his ability to coach. It will be his ability to piss off the FFG community with his "coach-speak". My advice is to trust very little that he says as the basis for fantasy decisions. He seems to be a graduate of the "Belichek Shannahan School of BS" when it comes to the media. He also plays a lot of mind games. This extends to every position on the field - not just RB. Ask his veteran Offensive Lineman who were benched early in camp for 2 rookies.
Regarding the move to put RB back on kickoffs, it has been covered a few times already, but since I spend a large portion of my time on the Fins message boards I will again share what the general opinions are.
1. Cam wants to see how RB runs in space (with room to move). Kick returns are a good way to see that. He is not concerned with Ginn getting time at KR in the preseason. It is not rocket science, and he has returned a few kicks in his time.
2. Kick returner gets grouped with punt returner when people talk about injury risk. The fact is, kick returner is not even close to the same risk as punt returner. A kick return is very comparable to taking a pass in the flats and turning upfield with it.
3. Cam feels that based upon what he has seen, RB needs a few hits before he gets "into the game". The kick return gives him that first hit.
4. He may choose to use RB on situational KRs - when a big play is needed. He may be back there with Ginn, and he wants RB to get some reps in case he needs him for this. He has been very good so far as a KR, averaging around 29 yards per.
There is certainly a counter argument for all of this - I am simply posting speculation. What I do admire about Cam personally is that he doesnt care about what is "normally" done - he is doing things the way he thinks they should be done. He is not an idiot, as evidenced by the incredible success he had in SD. He has to get a lot of that credit, since the HC clearly did not. He deserves a season before we call him the worst coach in the NFL just becuase he is straying from the norm .
