Can Jax running game come back this week? (1 Viewer)

Denver has looked average at best against the run vs Lynch and Jordan. Not what they used to be for sure.

Me thinks this is a golden opp for JAX to get their running game going again. Could owners be putting Taylor/Drew on the bench at exactly the wrong time?

They will both have their best games of the season (I know - may not be saying much)

I have thought the same thing and will be playing MJD as my 2nd flex this week over the likes of Cedric Benson, Santonio Holmes, Brandon Marshall and Ronnie Brown.

thinking the same exact thing...as tempting as it is to bench MJD i just can't do it in favor of the likes of chrissy brown, marshall or berian. i suspect JDR makes this a defensive game which means controlling the ball and keeping the denver offense off the field. maybe, i'm just hoping foolishly, but i'm not benching MJD now given jax's lackluster performance and going up against a high profile AFC rival.

Lets put it this way.

MJD did nothing against the Atlanta Falcons. Whether or not the Broncos have looked good on defense makes no difference. If he cant get it done in Atl, he shouldnt be able to get it done in Denver.

Yes, Meester has been out the first 2 games. The earliest he'll come back is Week 5 after their Week 4 bye. It could be a couple weeks after that though.

The problem with the Jags running game could be the challenge that the Jags run defense has in getting off the field. After watching the tape of Week 1, I'm sure Shanahan is going to run the ball as much as possible.

Holding the ATL RBs to 3.5 YPC is a good sign that the Jaguars run D is back. I think week one was the clear aberration. We're talking about a run D in Jacksonville that has been great since Stroud and Henderson have been stout. What TEN did was incredible, but without the threat of a Vince Young, I don't think any team will run on them like that again.Obviously Henry is a must start, but I'd be surprised if he gets over 110 yards. I'd probably project about 80.

I'm starting MJD in the only league I own him basically because I don't have a another decent option. With Denver's CBs, I fully expect the broncos to push everyone up in the box and focus on stopping the run. David Garrard, even with his nice QB rating, isn't scaring anyone so far. Atlanta and Tenn both played cover 1 basically the entire game and the Jags scored 10 and 13 points. Champ and Bly, crafty ol Shanny, road game a mile high.. things could get ugly for the Jags. Luckily Denver's offense isn't blowing anyone away either, so there's some hope as a Jags fan, but it could be a long day for the Jags offensive fantasy players.

Latest on Jones-Drew's X-rays

Updating the little blurb in the Orlando Sentinel about Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew being X-rayed for an undisclosed injury last Sunday, we did some poking around and we're told it "might be his neck but it's not a big deal." Sore neck or not, Jones-Drew is 44th in the NFL with 63 rushing yards after 2 games.

Not to hijack any further, but that's the problem, Chase. Both Stroud and Henderson are playing hurt. Stroud had offseason microfracture surgery on his ankle. Henderson has shoulder problems and now will be held out of contact at practice all week because of a blow to the head.

I haven't been able to watch any Jag's games yet, can any of you tell me why MJD isn't getting me any points?
although the jags passing game has actually been pretty good, the jags can't seem to sustain many drives and MJD isn't getting a ton of carries (freddy either). it's the running game that appears anemic. they generally run it up the middle, where it's usually clogged. i've watched every snap of the jags this season (that's called torture) and i can only remember 2-runs where the RB got past the line of scrimmage (one by fred, one by MJD).it seems that if they stretch the defense horizontally, they can create some running lanes.much of the issue is that the jags defense stays on the field for long stretches of time. their only giving up 10 pts/game, but every drive seems about the same. the opponent moves the ball down the field rather easily, usually converting 3rd downs, only to be stopped somewhere in jags territory. it's very "bend but don't break". the jags offense seems to spend an awful lot of the time on the sidelines.i haven't seen any logical evidence for the jags running game to make a marked improvement soon, but wouldn't surprised if it did. i just don't know why it would.the passing game seems in sync and maybe there's just been an adjustment to dirk koetter's system. i hope some of you are right and it's "just time", though.the good news for MJD owners is that, when the running game does get going, it appears that MJD will get significant carries and greg jones (and fred taylor) are not on the field on the short-yardage and goal-line situations (althought the sample size for the latter is small)

it could just be that teams have been loading up to stop the run, not respecting garrard's arm.

the good news is that garrard has looked very good so far. he seems decisive and accurate on his throws. the running game hasn't been effective enough to help turn those drives into more points, but as teams start respecting garrard more, some running games might open.

it would seem that this is the wrong week for that to happen, but the jags actually could be better suited for this matchup than some would think.

the jags spread the ball around and don't really have a 'go-to' WR. there's only one champ bailey and the WR that he covers won't be much better than the one he doesn't. if the jags come out in 3-4 wide and/or keep getting marcedes involved, i could see the jags finding open recievers and creating running lanes.

this may be just wishful thinking as a jags fan, but i think there's some logic in it.

how they'll keep travis henry off the field is another matter.

I agree that week 1 was probably an aberration but I wouldn't say their defense is back because they held Atlanta down. Atlanta with Harrington is not Atlanta with Vick and I don't think the Atlanta rushing attack will resemble years past.

petrino still doesn't have a RB that fits his system.shanny doesn't have that problem.zone blocking against a big, old, banged-up, D-line sounds like bad news for the jags.
