Can Steven Jackson make the Hall if he wins a ring? (1 Viewer)

Steven Jackson had a very good career but I don't know if he is hall of fame material. However, what if he wins a super bowl ring in a few weeks? Is that enough? What if he is Super Bowl MVP? Is that enough?

No.

He never led the league in rushing, led the league in yards from scrimmage once. Never led the league in any other significant category. He was good for a long time, but no.

So if the Pats win this year and he gets 2 carries for 3 yards in the SB, how does that improve his HOF credentials?

It certainly helped Bettis but he gets more points because he was on the team for 10 years. SJax just got on the bus.

If he's MVP for the SB and plays two more years for the Pats in any capacity then it looks more possible and could even say likely.

The bolded has less than a 1% chance of happening - and I'd say his Hall of Fame chances are only slightly better even if it did.

Frank Gore has more rushing yards, yards from scrimmage, and TDs than Jackson. Does that mean we should start talking about Gore as a HOFer?

If Sjax wins SBMVP which is practically impossible NE would give him a lucrative 2 year deal and his revised career stats would have to be considered. But its more likely that he gets 2 carries....

This ring should have no factor either way
Right or wrong, there are instances where SB rings has certainly played a role in certain players getting into the HOF. That said, I don't think it would play a role in SJax's case, for a couple of reasons. One, even if he gets a ring, he's nowhere near HOF caliber. Two, he's most likely not going to play a major role in NE winning a SB, more than likely. I could be wrong, but I doubt it, based on what we've seen to this point.

I don't think the general question about Jackson's HoF credentials is all that outlandish, but this SB is unlikely to have much of an impact on his case, and I don't see him contributing much next year and beyond. His case hinges mostly on consistency (8 straight years with 1000+ yards) and total yardage. Definitely a long shot, though.

NFL is a team sport so rings shouldn't play into getting in the HOF (unless you're a QB), especially for washed up RBs.
