Can the Colts place a Franchise or Transition tag on Manning? I dont understand why they would let him just walk without some type of compensation.

The Franchise Tag can only be used on free agents, but Manning is not a free agent because he signed a 5-year contract last year. Besides, the Franchise Tag would mean that the Colts would have to pay him $16 million if no team wanted him.
