QB - Jared Goff - DET/8 - $16
QB - Tua Tagovailoa - MIA/12 - $10
QB - Russell Wilson - NYG/14 - $9
Did you add Wilson mostly because you wanted Tua at his cost, but then felt you needed a 3rd QB because of his injury history?
Wilson is just bye/emergency cover should one of the 2 above him get injured. Yes I hate to sink $9 into a player that may not play, but for the reasons I already highlighted further up, I will always have a 3rd option there. Russ seemed the cheapest insurance cost that should mostly start this year. I may change the 3rd QB or even Tua depending on how things leading up to the deadline.
Ah yes, I remember you saying 3 QB's is a must from now on. Have you considered rostering both Richardson and Jones instead of Tua and Wilson? It's built-in injury insurance, and would take 2 injuries in order to lose 1 QB.

But that doesn't solve the issue - If I did that and Goff got injured, what happens when Jones/Richardson are on bye? That one week with 0 points from the QB spot could be an absolute death call for my team advancing.

te $35-$40 3.0 tes

I have to ask - why these 2 particular D's? Do you simply think they are the best of the $4 group?
I have a great reason why I picked those 2 defenses. It required tons of thought and research:

1) get list all of the cheapest defenses
2) go to FBG redraft Team Defense rankings
3) pick the top 2 that didn't have the same bye week.

End of research.

Question about QB pricing, JJ McCarthy is the ninth most expensive QB in the contest, but the Footballguys experts rank him as about the 20th best QB in their rankings with the highest anyone has him is 13. Explain the reasoning to me please

You just have to assess if some players are worth the price. Some are clearly not.

The high price for McCarthy is he's not on a rebuilding team. He has a great receiving core, a really good coach and a pretty good offensive line. How good is he really?

That's for you to decide.

I think some potential upside is built into that price.

My good ol' spreadsheet includes the averages by year.

Though if you want to win, you should go with more players than average - for your roster as a whole, and for every position except maybe QB & RB.

I was looking at the best ball rankings. If someone has him higher than 13 in other rankings I would love to see it ❤️

Not gonna lie…I hate it.
Only 4 RBs? Only 2 TEs? You’re prancing us, right? Especially with the success rate stats for larger rosters
Actually it's about 3.25 RB's! And yes, I just like to create and post various rosters. I am usually on the smaller roster side, but this year I like alot of the cheaper WR's, so this year will be a larger roster. And I don't really like the RB prices, so will have to figure that out as I go. Hopefully we get a better feel on some of these teams like CLE and HOU.

Yeah, agree that WR, especially middle- of -the -pack guys offer some good value, better even then the TE’s who I sometimes lean to for flex fills

Same thoughts for me…

If tua were to stay healthy, he is a freaking steal at $10….
But then if you roster someone else as a third qb in case tua gets hurt it’s like just don’t pick tua….

But for his price versus potential upside, tua could be a big part of a winning team if he plays more than half a season.

I like to post my first team and see how bad I end up deviating but the final entry. 😂

On the first run - I don’t typically look at bye weeks, etc just pick guys that on initial look could be good value plays as I like to be in the 24-28 range for players.
So posting my first look, mainly for me to look back on when I get to final submittal. Just fun to see if 500 iterations changes a lot of players…or just a few.

First change will be more WR’s, less RBs and TE’s. Also, 2 QBs, both on same bye week have to change….lol…which I know but I do like both those guys in this format so one will end up with one of them on on my final team.

Both your QB's share a bye  Just kidding. Both QB's run about the same, so who do you think will throw for more yards and TD's on their new teams?

While I like most of the players individually, you tended to choose more backups than starters. But you could have a gold mine with a few injuries.

There were 15 options at WR for $2. What made you hone in on Kyle Williams? (see what I did there, hahaha)

TE - Jake Ferguson - DAL/10 - $15
TE - Kyle Pitts Sr. - ATL/5 - $12
TE - Brenton Strange - JAX/8 - $12
That's some decent firepower. You can only start 3 in a given week, so I think it's fine to have 3 for double-digit dollars, but after that, I prefer cheaper ones.
PK - Blake Grupe - NO/11 - $3
PK - Cairo Santos - CHI/5 - $3

How are their schedules at the end of the season?
All good questions….
the qb’s actually went to more balanced attack teams. Grubb left Seattle so they definitely will not throw as much. I picked these two first….because they were the only two qb’s I carried last year and they got me to top 200 😁 so I have a soft spot for them….but both are in worst locations due to more balanced offenses so now I don’t think I will use either one!! 😂

I already picked different rbs as that was my first thought after posting…plus the best value group this year is definitely WR’s…so next rendition will be less rb’s and focus on a few that start…

Add lots more wr’s, including a few more $2 wr as there are 3 other $2 wr’s I am interested in. Like Williams because of SPEED…so he could get some decent playing time this year as patriot wrs will never be mistaken for an elite group,

Good point on TE’s and don’t think this group has as much value as years past…so,may drop back to 3 TE’s with one of them being cheap that may hit. Really like Fannin…unfortunately Njoku on same team who is no slouch…😁 but Fannin could be a stud TE in a couple years.

K’s actually thinking of just 2 $4 kickers and you save a buck over 3 $3 kickers

Final roster will probably be only two defense (no chance of injuries) and may do similar to kickers….two $4 defenses which earns me a $1 back.

I think that people trying to scare true competitors off the high priced kickers are purposely being obtuse with long winded stories, so that teams that truly seek to win this championship realize that the best kickers do indeed cost a bit more, but that expense is well worth the cost.
If you ain't rostering Aubrey, you're playing for 2nd place!
Aubrey won't have as many FGs this year.
He will have to rely on EPs.
There will be a lot more TDs in Dallas.

I'm an addict. Still haven't looked at byes or positional balance though. I went through and ended up with a 33 player roster and had to cut some and consolidate.

I need to work some Atlanta receiving into this to stack better.

And I never remember the 2 vs 3 K/D scoring differential stats

I think you want 3 Ks (since they can get hurt or cut) but you can have just 2 Ds (since the whole defense can’t get hurt).

That’s what I’ve been doing at least and it’s served me amazingly well over the years!

if there was such a thing as "conventional wisdom" over the years...there are of course big arguments on either side of the X.5 position totals...especially considering 12 qb guy and 14 te guy.

qb $30-35 2.5 qbs
rb $80-90 4.5 rbs
wr $75-85 5.5 wrs
te $35-$40 3.0 tes
pk $9-11 3.0 pks
td $8-10 2.5 tds

avg roster size 20.5
My good ol' spreadsheet includes the averages by year.

Though if you want to win, you should go with more players than average - for your roster as a whole, and for every position except maybe QB & RB.
I didn't anticipate the RB commment (QB comment aside). Care to elaborate? Concentrate on RB momentum stocks versus value stocks?
RBs usually cost more than WRs or TEs who get similar production, so you should aim to fill your flex spots with WRs or TEs and try to take as few RBs as you can get away with.

That might be fewer RBs if you're getting good ones (I think of 5 RBs for $60-$75 as standard; 4 RBs can be viable if they're all good ones) or more if you're collecting cheapish handcuff/committee types. Last year I actually went with 8 RBs, while spending the least $ at RB that I ever have.

So it's not that you shouldn't ever go for more RBs, it's that at WR/TE/PK/TD/total you should never go below the number of players that you've listed (or the averages in my spreadsheet). At QB & RB it can be fine to be below those numbers, though it can also be fine to go higher (especially if you can find a good combo of cheaper guys).

On the one hand, I did reconfigure my roster in consideration of your comments (thanks!)...on the other hand I have a larger investment in RB ($94 !!) and less in WR ($72) based on perceived value in each pool.

3 qb / 5 rb / 6 wr / 3 te / 3pk / 2 td

Unless things change I'm just waiting for a couple of qb battles to resolve my QB3 selection.

Currently at 2QB/5RB/8WR/4TE/3K/2D

Feeling like a comfy old recliner in your grandparent’s house.

But looking at 3QB/3TE combos instead now. Who liked that crappy old chair anyway!?!

As far as QBs go, I'm looking for 20+ pts per week from my QBs, bare minimum. Ideally, this should be 30+ pts per week.

I could probably go with 3 QBs, but could very well be 3 QBs getting me 15-20 pts per week. Why bother?

After 20 minutes, I’m back at 2 “better” QBs and reduced to 7 WRs :)

Question about QB pricing, JJ McCarthy is the ninth most expensive QB in the contest, but the Footballguys experts rank him as about the 20th best QB in their rankings with the highest anyone has him is 13. Explain the reasoning to me please

Check this again...
I was looking at the best ball rankings. If someone has him higher than 13 in other rankings I would love to see it ❤️

Henry who is the big dog around here has him at 11 when you adjust for this scoring. They weight byes in the pricing so his early bye bumps him up over Prescott and Mahomes.

has anyone heard if there will be a subsriber contest this year? I know they mentioned low participation last year. and no comments on a date for start of event this year. I lvoe thsi game, i hope it doesnt go away

I'd play this contest even if there weren't any prizes. It's probably my favorite fantasy contest each season.
I hit the money in Joe's side pot 2 years ago and just rolled the money into the winner's food bank donation. So, I agree, and if you don't need it might as well help some folks out. This is just for fun. I guess if I landed in the big money I'd keep some but I'd do some good with plenty of it also.
I did the same thing last year
