that Pro Bowl berths are meaningless when discussing how worthy of the Hall of Fame a player is?

Every year, this happens. There are players that make it who should not, and players who do not make it who should have, yet people still talk like Pro Bowl berths mean something whenever there is a thread about whether or not a certain player should make the Hall of Fame.

They may not be quite as important as some think, and deserving players get snubbed every year. However, can you name one Hall of Famer from the modern era that didn't go to at least one Pro Bowl?

While 10 pro bowls may translate to a player becoming a member in the Hall of Fame, one won't. Many people seem to exaggerate one year equalling ten.Fans vote for the pro bowl. A percentage of it IS a popularity contest. Fans also appreciate good players.Personally I don't care if LJ's high school teacher voted for him at NFL.com but I am curious who the fans appreciate. There's alot of "grey area" here but Pro bowls matter to me.

Are Pro-Bowl nods an unequivical indication of the best players at a position? Of course not, but they also aren't a complete shot in the dark either. Fans, players, and coaches aren't picking scrubs to play at these games; they are picking the guys that they think are the best, and that in itself lends it some validity.

# of pro bowls isn't the only factor that should be determined in whether a player goes to the Hall of Fame, but it probably is the #1 factor or best factor.

- # years in high-level play at given position in NFL

- Playoff and Superbowl performances

- intangibles (leadership, clutch-player etc)

Still I think # of Pro-Bowls is probably the #1 criteria though.
