Can we trust Evans now? (1 Viewer)

I know many guys here love Lee Evans talent. I am a big fan. But i've been slow to put him in my lineup because of Losman. Last week he had a surprisingly good day vs the Jets. This week they play at home vs the Vikings. Do you guys think he's a safe start? At what point can you stop worrying about Losman and just plug him in each week??? Or is that wishful thinking after a few :banned:

Would love to know what most think about Evans as a weekly start...

I'm a little nervous about him. He was terrible weeks 1 and 2, and last week, I believe I looked at his stats at halftime and he had 0 or 1 catches for very minimal yards. I'm starting him this week, but he makes me nervous because he is that little type WR that could be golden or could give you a goose-egg on any given week.

I'm holding on to him. He has skill and can be explosive. Also, Buffalo faces some weak passing D's later on.

Oct 15 @Detroit 1:00pm

Oct 22 New England 1:00pm

Nov 5 Green Bay 1:00pm

Nov 12 @Indianapolis 1:00pm (not necessarily weak, but Colts have shootout potential)

Nov 19 @Houston 1:00pm

Dec 10 @N.Y. Jets 1:00pm

Dec 24 Tennessee 1:00pm

my theory is that he got his looks because buffalo was down, so when they face a high power offense is when he should play. minnesota should be able to score some points, so i'm starting him.

I think I'm going to start him this week, but only because I have 2 clowns I can't really depend on this week (Stallworth and Owens) I'm a big Lee Evans fan, but I have soured on him quickly. That offense is way too conservative for my taste.

the problem with evans is that he's inconsistent because of his QB - so, after having one big game after two crappy ones, i'm not sure why you would think you can "trust" him now.

targets came late, he had precious few first 3 quarters. I'm waiting one more week on him

I like Evans talent but his FF production is tied to making big plays. The Bills threw deep to him a few weeks ago and he drew a long pass interference penalty. If he makes the catch his stats look much better. Bottom line is that he may be up and down but the Bills will take their deep shots with him every week. When he makes the catches you'll be sitting pretty when he doesn't you'll have lines like the first two games. He is due to score.

This year, and last, Evans is and has been very inconsistant. My analogy is to a baseball home run hitter with a .236 average. He have his o-fors, but he'll have his moments too. You can either drive yourself crazy trying to figure out which weeks he'll go off, or just plug him in every week and ride the roller coaster. Last year, using the same baseball analogy, Moulds was the leadoff hitter with a .325 average and a .420 OB%... he showed up every game and gave you something. Stokely and Kennison have been other all or nothing WR's like Evans too.

Since I just traded Mush for Crowell, I probably have to live with starting Evans every week.

I need to see another good week first. Still have the likes of Braylon and Colston starting ahead of him this week.

Difference this week was Minnesota didn't seem to roll coverage, and Evans got into the game early.

Nice day, did take a knockout shot later in the game, but Minny wasn't biting. Jauron then went into run mode to kill the clock, a strategy that almost came back to haunt the Bills.

Today's game went against the popular theory that Evans is an all-or-nothing receiver. He had 7 catches (spread throughout the game) for 90 yards. His longest catch was 23 yards, so he was more of a possession guy than a deep threat today. I'm not saying he's Keyshawn Johnson all of a sudden, but it's good to see him mix it up and be less one-dimensional. It's also good to see Buffalo/Losman using him as more than that.

Evans would have had another 50 and a TD in week 2 if not for a blatant PI call. I call it two good games (one of which got robbed from him) and a bad one. And now it's three good games and one bad game.Evans is a very good receiver who happens to be the only real threat in the passing game on his entire team. I expect him to be more on than off from here on out. I would be thrilled to have him as my WR3, and would even be okay with him as my WR2 from here on out (although I'd prefer someone better).
Evans owned Fred Smoot all day today
:goodposting:Another good point, he was facing an excellent CB and found a way to produce.
I have trouble calling Smoot an "excellent CB". He had a great year his last year in Washington... but more than any other position, CBs seem to come from nowhere to have a fantastic year and then settle back into mediocrity. Think of Charles Tillman (his rookie year) or Charles Woodson (2002 or 2003, I forget which). At this point, Smoot's middle name might as well be "toast".

I think we can. I say this because it looks more and more like Losman is becoming a real NFL QB. Maybe not superstar, but he looks like hes going to be ok.
