These guys were the top pitching prospect last year and trying to figure out where their value lies in a keeper league for this year and next - obviously Hughes is in a better situation now but how much better?

I would rather draft or keep one of these young guys with upside than retreads so where do they fit in? SP4 or 5?

Any analysis on either would be appreciated...

Hughes is WAY ahead of Bailey at this point IMO.

Hughes had pretty reasonable stats last year in his stint in the bigs - 2/1 K/BB and a 4.46 ERA. With some more development and the great Yankee offense behind him, he could win 15 games. I would definitely rank him around SP4 for this season alone and he's close to breaking out.

Bailey had an ugly dead-even K/BB last year in the bigs and even in the minors his walk rate has been way too high, about one every other inning. Seems like he's being rushed up a bit when he needs more work on his control. He may not start the season in the big leagues and even if he does he won't last if he doesn't learn to throw strikes. He doesn't turn 22 for another two months so the future is still bright, but the hype is way ahead of the player right now IMO.

Good stuff - I figured Hughes is more ready for now - but its a keeper league and I was able to sign Hughes to a 3 year deal for a reasonable rate and Homer to a two year. I am counting on Hughes to produce - Homer is more of a flyer hoping he breaks out

Thanks - keep more of the info coming!

If you're looking to one of the Reds young pitching studs, I'd remember the name Johnny Cueto. He's ahead of Homer right now and likely to at least make the team in the BP, where he'll transition to the SP role mid-year.

Hughes looks great so far - 4 no hit innings yesterday - was thinking of drafting another stud to put with my staff (Hammels, Kazmir, Carmona, Hughes, Bailey and Putz) - but with Hughes looking so good I may just add a guy on the cheap with upside (maybe Sheets) and roll with it - spend the extra cash on hitting.

Bailey looks decent - sounds like he will stick at least for now....

FWIW, Reds Yankees is on FSN Ohio today with Bailey on the hill. Volquez is scheduled to pitch as well.

thnx! Will have to check him out to see if his progress!!!

missed the game - saw Homer gave up 6 hits and 2 runs in 2.1 innings - not a great outing - anyone see it?

His location was pretty all over the place again. His fastball is constantly high, whether in the zone or out of the zone. People still have trouble squaring up on his off speed stuff even when he hangs it. Volquez looked much better. I'd consider Bailey on the outside looking in for the rotation battle.Keep in mind that the Yanks are a very patient team and didn't chase many of Baileys "out" pitches that he typically has good success with.

Well Homer is in the minors and will not be a factor for months

Hughes has looked awful

Add Jon Lester to the list as I picked him up in a deal - he promptly gets shelled as well!

Any hope out there for these three????

Hughes is 21 yrs old. Hell be VERY inconsistent this year. Despite what Sox fans tell you Lester is not a good pitcher. Hes not roster worthy.

I have Hughes as my #5 SP - he should be ok in that role - I can take a few bad outingsI picked up Lester in a keeper league - heard some good things about him - tough matchup tonight vs Cleveland - hope he rebounds - definitely hope he is roster worthy in deep mixed leagues.
