Even though Catholics preach forgiveness, their rules preclude them from doing so.
While you cite Catholicism, which is the religion my parents raised me under, I have found this to be true with other christian religions as well.
The hypocrisy that abounds in Christianity knows no end.
While I have been wronged many, many times in my life, I always find that I am a better person and more comfortable with myself when I forgive those who have wronged me. When I choose not to forgive somebody (for whatever reasons) I find I am not a better person. My choice.
While I have wronged others during the course of my life, my relationships still remain with those who have forgiven me. I do not have a single relationship with anyone who could not, or would not, forgive me. Their choice.
Just like KCitons, I chose to question Catholicism and Christianity while in my teens.....because the actions of the church didn't follow the doctrine it preached. I found too much hypocrisy to continue to try to find faith in it. Thus, I have absolutely no faith in any religion.
I believe in me. I know what is right, and what is wrong, because I feel it in my heart. Not because some (any) religion compartmentalized it for me.
It is entirely possible to live an honest and "good" life without any religion impacting it. So that is what I choose.
