That started in the last 10 years?

That everyone knows..............per Gene Simmons. Rock is dead.

It used to be "Don't trust anyone over 30"

Now it's "all the new stuff sucks"

GET OFF MY LAWN!

Imagine Dragons

Whether "everybody" knows them or not, I don't know.

Of Monsters and Men

Paramore

Mumford & Sons

Foster the People

AWOLNATION

Almost listed the Black Keys & Silversun Pickups, but they miss the 10 year thing by a year or two.

Arctic Monkeys

Vampire Weekend

Tame Impala

War on Drugs

Not sure on formation dates for these bands but debut albums all in the last decade and all have released multiple great rock albums with mass appeal.

Never heard of any of these.

I can guarantee that my parents haven't heard of any of the bands named so far.

This doesn't mean that rock is dead. It's just evidence of how segmented music has become. The only musical artists that have become known by everyone in the last 10 years have been famous for other reasons than just their music.

A couple of big bands, Avenged Sevenfold and Seether just miss the arbitrary cutoff...

Halestorm may have existed, but they didn't get record deal until 2005 or so

Ghost BC

The Pretty Reckless

In This Moment

A Pale Horse Named Death

Rival Sons

Black Sunshine

Black Water Rising

Kill Devil Hill

Winery Dogs

Texas Hippie Coalition

Five Finger Death Punch

 My parents probably didn't know 90% of the bands I listened to in HS (mid 1980s). Pretty sure my mom doesn't know 99% of the bands I listen to now.

BigBang - saw these guys at SXSW around 10 or so years ago. Thought they were pretty rockin. Surprised to see that they are still around making records. Lead singer reminded me of a young Axl Rose who could play guitar. Apparently his dad was in a band that opened for Zeppelin, Hendrix, and others back in the day.

To the Mountains

One of a Kind

Wild Bird

I stand by my Royal Blood submission. I'll also throw in Haim. A lot of pop in their songs, but they are absolutely a rock band if you've seen then live.

The thing with rock bands...it usually takes a few albums to realize they are good. The GnR and Nirvana types don't exist in today's iTunes world.

Keep in mind OP said "that everyone knows"....plenty of great rock music out there from newer bands, but not exactly well-known. That said, the people who usually post in these threads about how they've never heard of any of these bands.....generally have ####ty taste in music (sorry).

Simmons is probably just angry that he's too old to know what good rock music is anymore.

Rival Sons

The Sword

The Pretty Reckless

Danko Jones

Foxy Shazam

Tame Impala

Parlor Mob

Savages

Dirty Heads

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster

In This Moment

Volbeat - :headbang: since 2001
