Cape Canaveral-Cocoa Beach dining (1 Viewer)

Hi.

Wife and I are going to be in the area this Thurs-Monday for our anniversary.

Looking for recommendations for places to eat.  Searched through a few threads and nothing was too recent.  I know a few of you live in the area so figured I would ask (I think EG and Quez maybe?).  Would like a suggestion for maybe a higher end joint and then anything else that isnt too touristy.  Love seafood and beer.

Also thoughts in regards to hitting up the kennedy space center as that sounds interesting as well.

Thanks in advance!

Go to Cocoa Beach and go to Florida's Fresh Grill if you like fish. Not a lot of shellfish there, but if you like fish, you'll be hard-pressed to do better. If you want to dine al fresco and like Hawaiian influence, try Fat Kahuna's. For a more "New England" style seafood experience in a very no-frills setting, hit Jazzy's although it's not quite as good as it once was.

Those are your top choices for seafood and beer. Unless you want to go really high-end, you can go a little further south and hit The Fat Snook.

No sweat.  There's not a ton in the way of fine dining there (Pompano Grill would be another more upscale seafood-centric menu) but I can dial you in on whatever kind of food you're looking for.  Moreso in Cocoa Beach, not as much in Canaveral.  People really seem to like the restaurants at the port for the view of the water and the cruise ships sailing out.  If you decide to pay for scenery rather than top-notch food, IMO your best bet is Seafood Atlantic over Rusty's, Milliken's Reef, etc.  None of them are awful, just not great, but excellent places to go for cocktails, often live music, and a view.  The one that I found to have above average food is Seafood Atlantic.

Couple other places that are cook for cocktails are the Sandbar Sports Grill (food sucks though) and Coconuts On the Beach (food is decent but nothing to write home about.) The latter is 2 doors down from my old condo, 76 yards door to door with only a flophouse in between.

If you decide you want BBQ, stick to Mad Jack's Grilling Shack, or ideally, Slow & Low BBQ.  The latter is much nicer to eat at.  The Pig & Whistle offers very respectable English pub grub and beer with lots of TVs to watch the Copa/Euros if that's your bag.  Cocoa Beach Brewing Company is a chill place to have a couple local brews on their patio out back.  If you don't mind a dark, smoky, mildly seedy joint, get a screwdriver, greyhound or (my fave) a salty dog at Johnathan's Pub on Brevard Ave.  Whichever you order, I'd bet a decent sum that it will be the best you've ever had (and likely ever will.)

The Mango Tree is a great Italian place in the heart of Cocoa Beach.

The marina would have several options.  Grill's has great seafood, live music, great tiki bar.  Rusty's has a nice outdoor area and tiki bar.  Great oysters there.  Milliken's is really fun too if you're looking for more of a party atmosphere.

EG thinks you should hit the Surfer's Pub for a beer challenge.

Brano's is pretty solid Italian too.  I'm hard to impress with Italian food based on where I grew up, but it's not bad.  Probably the best on the island.
