Cardinals @ Bears Preseason Game Thread (1 Viewer)

The decision at QB for the season opener for the Cards will likely be decided tonight. Anderson will have to flop big time to lose the job (and w/o Fitz, on the road & handing to Timmy in all likelihood), it is very very easy to see that happening. Leinart will have to recapture his 2009 3rd Preseason game form vs. the Pack last year to have any shot.

Get your popcorn ready, could be the last time Matty's in a Cardinal uniform. Anderson/Leinart are likely fighting for 1 roster spot IMO.

Bears with a couple first downs. Then, Cutler stares down Knox and DRC jumps it for the INT

Derek Anderson @ QB.

Anderson on 3rd down throws into double coverage and pass tipped up in air and nearly picked. Punt back to Bears.

That was a really really good example of why it will be leinart. Terrible pass. Anderson has such limited vision and doesn't seem all that bright to me.

Nice effort by Knox to haul in the deep throw by Cutler.

Forte with 9 yard gain off screen. FWIW He looks much shiftier than last year. Knox catches a bullet from Cutler for a 1st.

Screen pass to Chester for a 1st. Next play, the Wild Devin ends with a fumble. Bears recover.

DRC breaks up a pass intended for Knox. Cutler smashed for a sack on 3rd down. Gould FG attempt is blocked.

Anderson back on the field. To my knowledge, Beanie did not see the field in the first.

Great hanging in pocket by Anderson for a pass to Stephen Williams (great grab on a pass that was behind him). Williams is a player folks. He's translating what I saw in camp to the games. Another grab by Williams (takes a huge shot & hangs on)

Another Williams grab. Touchdown.

And Anderson moves into the lead for the starting job. Unless he self-destructs I think the job is his.

Great 30+ yard run by Chester. Great reverse of field. Rb's are going to catch a ton of screens this year if today is any indication.

Gould misses FG attempt off the upright.

I'm only following the play by play, how does Cutler actually look? Making good throws, or no?
IMO, he has looked terrible. The INT, the sacks, he has layed out WRs to get killed. He through a nice pass to Knox once and Hester, who dropped it, and a nice scramble, but otherwise not good. Oh yeah, the other good thing, I dont think he has thrown to Olsen once....

Bad throws on his 2 picks. He's been helped on a # of occasions by great grabs by his receivers (particularly Knox). He and the Bears are in trouble this year. Likely the NFC North cellar.

I was all set to wait on a QB and take Kolb/Cutler. After Kolb last night and Cutler tonight, there's no way I can live with either of those two as my QB1. FML.

Leinart short pass to Beanie to down near the goalline. Beanie fumbles, but will be reviewed. (Appears knee was down)

EDIT: Call on the field stands, Beanie fumble. Bears down the ball. End of Half.

Cutler should be as good as anyone after the top-rated guys. For FF points, not NFL wins. (I did draft him, but at least if I lose on his back the Bears probably will too!)

Bad call, but does this move Hightower back up in the pecking order for RB for AZ?

There's no comparison between Beanie / Hightower running the ball. (Was pretty obvious as far back as Beanie's first carries of the 2009 preseason). Whiz thought Beanie's knee was down when interviewed before hitting the locker room so I don't know if he himself put a lot of stock into the play itself.i expect Beanie to get 60-65% of the carries. I think the Cardinals will go only as far as Beanie takes them.

Leinart sacked on a terrible terrible effort by Faneca. About as bad as you can get. Punt to Bears.

1st down: Great pursuit by Clark Haggans on a Chester Taylor run.

2nd down: Cutler sacked by Gabe Watson. Cards front getting great push.

3rd: Cards stuff a Taylor run to get out of the endzone.

Bears punt.

Bears win 4 games this year, or am I being generous?
You're probably not too far off. -------------Hightower with a big run to the outside (29 yards)Another great run by Hightower (nice move between the tackles -- juked and made 2-3 guys look foolish)Bad effort so far by Bears D(1st team) on this drive.2nd: Julius Peppers gets the corner on Levi Brown to sack Leinart. 3rd: TD pass to Breaston (nice catch and run capped off with great leaping effort into the endzone)

at this point, can we honestly say they're even better than detroit?@bufvs sea@carvs wasdet x2those are probably their 6 best chances on the schedule --- I might take the under on that 4.

Cutler's night over. Looked about as bad as you can look. He was helped on a # of the ones he did complete as well.

Leinart's night over as well. Skelton in. Going to be real interesting to see what happens this week with the Cards QB situation. Derek played well enough to remain the starter. Leinart was efficient.

I think Detroit may be leaps and bounds better than Chicago at this point. If I was a big prop better, I'd take Lovie as the 1st coach fired this year.

Really like what I see from Max Hall. Great pocket presence and throws a beautiful ball with some zip on it.

Wouldn't expose him to waivers. Going to be real interesting to see happens with him. If Anderson is the guy, I think Matt's gone.

Leinart was 9 of 10 for 84 yards and a touchdown to one of their presumptive starting WRs. Anderson threw a ball that was nearly picked off and was 7 of 12 for 94 yards and a TD to Williams. Anderson played for four drives. His first two drives lasted three and four plays, respectively, as Anderson failed to complete passes on third and three and third and four. He ended up 3 of 6 on the night on third down passing. On his third drive, he completed a touchdown pass. On his fourth and final drive, he threw an incomplete pass to Beanie on third and long that gave the Bears a free clock stoppage with 4:14 left in the half. Leinart played for three drives. His first drive was a two minute drill, and he led them inside the 15 before Beanie fumbled at the 6 yard line (the disputed play earlier in this thread). His next drive started behind his own 20, and he brought them across midfield before punting on a fourth and two. His final drive ended with a touchdown pass. Anderson is now 31 of 53 for 287/2/2. Both of his INTs and one of his TDs were against the opposing team's backups. Leinart is 19 of 23 for 161 yards and a TD. His prorated numbers are better in every statistical category. All three of his drives tonight were productive. Only one of Anderson's drives was good. The one thing Leinart didn't do as well was take sacks - he took two more tonight. Whisenhunt has not declared Anderson the starter. He declared Anderson the week 3 starter. He said that the QB job is an open competition and that Anderson would have a chance to lock it up. But prior to this game, Leinart still seemed to believe he'd be starting week 1, and he had a very good game. He had a bad floating pass that's been replayed time and again, a lineman stepped on his foot during a handoff, and he's taken a couple other sacks. But he's also been efficient and hasn't thrown a pick in three games, and had his best game of the preseason in game three. I don't think "Derek played well enough to remain the starter. Leinart was efficient" really covers it.

Was at the game:

summary--

1. Cutler looked as bad as his numbers and his INTs were all him-inaccurate.

2. Olsen was on the field a lot with hester and knox.

3. Chester Taylor looked quick.

4. Chi moved the ball but could not score-- either turnover or missed FG. Draft Gould with confidence.

1. Anderson does not look good. Strong but inaccurate arm-just like in Cle.

2. Leinhart had good numbers but really did not throw anything down field.

3.S. williams WR looked good-- mainly was covered by Tillman and beat him regularly.

4. Ari running game looks poor.

Oh btw,

fitzgerald played catch on sidelines without pads and had a brace on right knee before the game.

did not see him attempt to run.

So was Olsen targeted while he was on the field?

What are you even talking about? Detroit has won 2 games in 2 years. Now, Chicago will all of a sudden win less than 4 games? This is lame shtick. Go on with this nonsense

patience. it is only pre-season. a Martz offense is very opponent specific, with schemes each week to create mis-matches. in the pre-season there is minimal game planning vs your opponent with a vanilla offense, designed to rate your players not win the game. you see the same things happening in Philly, Dallas and Indy... vanilla offenses and thus poor looking pre-seasons... barring any big injuries to O-lines or starting skill players, trust your predictions and don't start doing major shifts on them due to 1 or 2 preseason games. (in either direction... same things happens a lot when some backup type player excels in pre-season, only to get huge hype and then when the regular season starts he moves back to his part-time role on his team...)

my predictions were the bears would look pretty much like they just did.
