Cardinals WR's (1 Viewer)

Anyone have any insight?

Would love to know how things seem to be shaking out over there for the WR2 and 3 positions

I wasn't able to see the preseason game but looks as though Steve Breaston either didn't get many plays or injured?.. certainly didn't catch any balls.

I saw Doucet had 3 Rec for 13... He's the other favorite for playing time as far as I can tell..

Please add what you can..

Did you watch Leinart repeatedly check down last night (as usual)? I think the RB's are going to catch a lot of passes.

Everything I've read says Breaston #2 & Doucet #3 for now in answer to your question.

Don't see those slots as anything I would want on my roster this year. And I also have Fitz at the back of the paclk for the top tier WRs.

Didn't watch the game last night, but looking at the box score I noticed that Andre Roberts had 9 targets, however, he only managed 2 catches. No one else had more than 3 targets.

Anyone see this game? If so, can you comment on Roberts, just seems like an inordinate amount of targets to me.

Very interesting, I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that the Cards were just seeing what they had in Roberts.. A test if you will...Seems like Fitz is going to be ok though so maybe not so much an issue...Que the "QB play sux snd Boldins gone so Fitz #'s will drop" crowd, ignoring all Leinart to Fitz stats from the past...

Andre Roberts was the Cardinal's 3rd round draft pick this year. He is competing for the WR 4 spot behind Fitz, Breaston, and Doucet. Roberts has been up and down at camp. He had a problem with drops early in camp, and the coaches indicated they want to give him a good look in preseason to see if he cements himself as the #4. That is probably the reason why he had so many targets.Fitz is the unquestioned #1. Breaston is #2. And Doucet is #3. It remains to be seen yet how the catches will be spread out, but keep in mind that Boldin played a lot more slot than most people realize in the three WR sets, so Doucet could take up that role. My hunch is that Fitz and Breaston will see the majority of the two WR sets, with Doucet subbing sometimes for Breaston. In the 3 WR sets, Fitz and Breaston will generally be outside with Doucet in the slot. I am not high on any of these WR's because the QB situation is such a mess. But I do think both Breaston and Doucet could be decent late round pickups if things fall right for the Cards this year. I am avoiding Fitz because he is going too early for my tastes (I would take him at the end of the 2nd, but not sooner).

My observations from camp/week 1 vs HOU:

WR1 L Fitzgerald

WR2 S Breaston

WR3 E Doucet (was the standout of mini camps and early training camp)

Top 3 are set.

Onrea Jones: was the favorite for #4 spot at one point, but has dissipated from the seen.

Andre Roberts: 3rd round pick, anointed punt returner. suffered from a severe case of the drops early on in camp. Fitz seems to spend quite a bit of extra time working with him. I haven't seen many down field looks, mostly shallow crossing patterns. This seems to be Roberts and Doucet territory, evidenced in the 9 targets for Roberts vs Houston. He couldn't get a hold of D Andersons rocket balls and had at least one simple drop. So far not a smooth transition for Roberts but it seems like the Cards want him to be the #4 option.

: hands down the "breakout player" from Cards camp 2010. 6'5" 210 undrafted free agent rookie from Toledo has showed a knack for getting down field and holding on to the ball. Had a very nice performance in the red/white scrimmage and followed up with a big catch (hit hard held on for big gain), garnered a 30+ yard interference call, and was the target of multiple fade/jump balls during failed 2 point conversions. Stephen Williams will make this teams active roster despite limited or no special teams contributions.

bump

for those of you scouting for deep roster keepers, Stephen Williams should be on your radar tonight.

excited to see what he brings to the table.
I have been trying to figure out why he wasn't drafted. 4.41 40, great size, excellent college numbers. from what I have learned was his tag was "inconsistent", scared a lot of people off. The strange thing is he has been the most consistent WR not named larry fitzgerald in camp. Sounds like he gets the start, im excited too.

so much for that, not sure if that was Williams or Leinart's fault :dunno:

#14- 3 grabs for 59 yards in the first half. A ton of targets. Looks like he botched the Leinart deep toss, but gotta blame Anderson for the missed TD opportunity.

Hopefully my other favorite undrafted rookie gets in for some pt....Max Hall!

Stephen Williams continues to make a believer out of me. With his play, Williams has secured a roster spot, and he is an intriguing prospect worth keeping an eye on for all of you dynasty owners out there. In addition to his size and speed, Williams has shown a solid work ethic and some good receiving skills. He is a great grab-and-stash player for deep dynasty leagues.

#14- 3 games 10 catches 167 yards one TD and a TON of targets. bailed out Derek Anderson on multiple occasions last night, not sure if he has had a "bad day" since camp began.

Roberts is no higher than 5th. Hanging onto his roster spot more based on draft position than merit at this point.

Really impressed with what I've seen from Williams.

Is it impossible to think he could make a push to unseat Doucet as the 3rd WR?

The question is who is going to be able to get the WRs the ball???? Leinart? I don't think so!! I don't think Leinart has the fortitude to play in a league with grown men. I have more faith in Anderson because he's actually had a couple decent seasons. Is his best in his rear view mirror? Maybe. Too many question marks for me to touch any Cardinal player where money is concerned. Fitzgerald is awesome but if QB play is bad... If you have Fitz in a Dynasty trade him, my opinion. Redraft.. Let someone else suffer.

Cardinals undrafted receiver Stephen Williams could turn into a steal

Cards WR Williams making people wonder how he went undrafted

by Bob McManaman - Aug. 31, 2010 06:45 PM

The Arizona Republic

Williams started 40 games for the University of Toledo and left as the school's all-time leader in receptions (229) and receiving yards (3,102). But he went untouched in this year's NFL draft.

The Cardinals had him rated as a potential third-round pick, but they didn't draft him, either.
Mission accomplished, according to Fitzgerald, who said Williams eventually might replace him as the Cardinals' No. 1 wideout.
Quarterback Derek Anderson said he never has seen a rookie free-agent receiver with the skill set of Williams - and Anderson played with a do-everything, undrafted receiver in Josh Cribbs of the Cleveland Browns.
Cardinals free safety Kerry Rhodes said: "I have no idea how this kid didn't get drafted, but he's a beast. Whether he's going up against the third team, the second team or the first team, he's a beast."

I'd say no, not this year. Unless Doucet gets hurt, I see Williams playing in the four WR sets this year.
If any of the top 3 get injured and miss time during the season, Stephen Williams will get his shot to play exteded minutes, and at this point I'm not sure if he would ever give them back.
