C'mon St. Louis, do this!! Braves have to face Lee, Hamels, and Oswalt. Cards play Houston. They have a good shot!

I will be shocked at the utter collapse of the Braves, but will happily take a playoff berth if it happens. That blown game to the Mets is looming larger.

Awesome....Philly may regret sweeping the Braves, though. Making the wild card team play another game would have weakened them a bit.

I'll admit that I felt a little dirty cheering for the Phillies tonight, but what the hell...

CARDS IN THE PLAYOFFS BABY!

Philly would have played Arizona in the NLDS had the Braves gotten the wild card. You cannot play a team from your own division in the DS.

I did not realize that the Cards handled The Phillies so well this year. Garcia has been a thorn in Philly's side too if I remember correctly from my past two fantasy baseball seasons.

I wouldn't put much stock in the regular season. What do you guys think the pitching matchups will be?Gm 1: Halladay v. GarciaGm 2: Lee v. LosheGm 3: Hamels v. CarpenterGm 4: Oswalt v. Jackson or Westbrook (or do you go back to Garcia)Gm 5: Halladay v. Garcia/Loshe

It depends on how he does in game 1 - I like Jackson out of the pen in this series, and the minute Lohse gets into trouble bring him in.

Good point. Losing last night would have either forced St Louis to use Garcia against Atlanta to get in or given them the Dbacks if St. Louis lost. I think you have to respect the Phillies for using most of their regulars and playing it honest.

If Westbrook sees a start in this series, I'm hoping in my car and driving to the Loo to punch LaRussa in his cat-loving face.ETA: Love ya, Tony. XOXO

Lohse is still pitching game 1, but LaRussa bumped Carpenter up to game 2. I don't like the move since most pitchers don't do well on 3 days rest, but, if anyone can pull it off, he can.

You can thank Jaime Garcia's home/road splits for that decision. If anyone can do it on short rest, Carp will. I'm hoping that LaRussa is gearing him up for this Game 2 start if we're down 0-1 ONLY. If Lohse comes out and wins Game 1, we need to throw Jackson Game 2. That gives Carp his full rest for a Game 3 at home where we're at worst tied 1-1, and then we also have the luxary of a Garcia home start in Game 4.

I would like to see that too. Today's game is huge. I hope they can to Halladay early.

Has LaRussa said why he went with Lohse?

The Cardinals had lefty Jaime Garcia fully rested and available for Game 1 but chose Kyle Lohse instead, despite Garcia posting a 0.96 ERA in 4 career starts against the Phillies, all since 2010. The Phillies left-handed and switch-hitters were happy with that decision.

Jaime's home/road splits are the main reason I believe.Home: 2.55 ERA, 1.11 WHIPAway: 4.67 ERA, 1.54 WHIPLohse wasn't the wrong choice for 5 innings today. Things just came apart too quickly in the 6th. Nice win for the Phils.
