FWIW - Dan Morgan was a key cog in that defense. With him gone, their run defense is good, but not GREAT. Plus, they could easily have 2 more defensive/ST TD's that didn't happen.
1. The dropped INT that would've gone for 6 by Ken Lucas against CIN (I think)
2. The blocked FG that would've scored a TD against DAL, but the play was stopped due to a CAR timeout.
They'll turn it around. I don't know about top 5, but they'll make some plays. They have to get more of a pass rush though, IMO, otherwise they are allowing their opponent to waltz down the field. If they can shut down their opponents 1st down plays, they will have a great shot to really make some plays on 2nd and 3rd and long. That's where they excel.
Not concerning their defense, but they really need a spark from DeAngelo Williams who should be back this week against TB. His 5.3 ypc could be exactly what that team needs to even out the run/pass and keep opponents guessing.
Carolina needs to get on a roll here with some more tough games coming up. TB, STL, @WAS, @PHI, NYG. I think if they can get a streak going, it will really help them down the stretch. They need some confidence boosters and winning consecutive games can fix that. If they can't win 2 of their next 3 I don't think they will be around come playoff time.
