Carr signs with Panthers (1 Viewer)

I read this as the Raiders couldn't promise Carr that they WON'T take a QB 1st overall. Can't imagine he would have signed on as a backup over being a starter. Carr has a previous relationship with Kiffin from Fresno State. This move was just to motivate Delhomme... :lmao:
 would you rather play for the Raiders? He finally had a chance to play for a decent team and took it. Great decision by him and great pickup by Panthers.
Good players want to start, period!
Thanks so much for getting it...Players want to start, and if they don't want to start then they shouldn't be on a team, I laugh when people write that guys don't want to play for certain teams. If you knew any one of these guys you know they'd play for the 0-14 Tampa Bay Buccaneers if that's who would pay them.Carr wasn't getting the gig in Oakland to himself IMO. It's either McCown is coming in from Detroit or they told him they will draft a QB if they want to.

I love people who think they understand an NFL player's motivation better than the player does. It's better to start for the Raiders than to have to compete for a starting position elsewhere? How'd that work out for Aaron Brooks? How's Lamont Jordan's career doing? How about Randy Moss? Jerry Porter? While certainly not the norm, there are definitely situations that are simply too bad to go to unless you have no other options, and until they prove otherwise the Raiders are one of them right now. For a guy like Carr, who did nothing but get shellacked by defensive linemen for five years in Houston, it's very understandable why an even more dysfunctional team with a worse offensive line and a brand spanking new 30-year old head coach operating under the most manipulative owner in the league would look like an awful destination to go to.

Lane Kiffin and Carr worked together at Fresno State, I would think that the chance to reunite with a coach that he worked with before, along with the perceived chance that I see to be a starter would outweigh any negativity in the PAST head coach/o-line debacle.

I really think he was told he wouldn't be the only guy in town, and if that was the case then Carolina would be just as good a spot to sit down as any.

For Panther fans' sake, I hope this doesn't turn into another Cutler vs. Plummer situation, where the incumbent just falls apart at the first sign of a challenge to his job.
Is that how you saw that situation? I thought Plummer was kept in way too long, and played horribly. I don't see many similarities between the two situations anyway, mainly because Carr was a much cheaper addition. But the Broncos were better off with Cutler last year than Plummer, and the Panthers would be better off to dump Delhomme for Carr sooner rather than later, if Delhomme plays like Plummer did last year.Just my :2cents: (To be clear, I don't think David Carr is very good, but I also think Delhomme is overrated.)
