Carson Palmer Traded to Oakland (1 Viewer)

Palmer has been solid all year for the Raiders. Didn't throw any big interceptions at all. :lmao:1) They never make the playoffs if they still had Palmer. Look at how well he did late in that win-and-in game against the Chargers2) Palmer was a monster in that '09 playoff game. Right. Thanks again for the 1st and 2nd round picks. They will come in handy as my Bengals continue to build a solid foundation. Enjoy draft weekend.-QG
Wow. Wake me when you get a new owner. Until then, you might want to stand down and shut up. Your team isn't going anywhere. Cheapness won't win in the NFL.
Ooh, that's low. Mikey Boy's never gonna die :(The claim was that Palmer woulda done better than Dalton - I just don't think that's the case. You guys might have better luck with him, but he wasn't working for us anymore.-QG

Judging by their collapse, I doubt the later is true.

No, I agree it wasn't working out anymore. For Carson Palmer. Which pretty much sums up how it isn't working for all the players. It's a systemic problem. Things don't work out there because the Bengals are run by such a cheap, dysfunctional owner that there was no reason to go stay. If one has to force a hand to leave, so be it. It's great that you guys got AJG and 2 picks coming up. Dalton looks like he'll be an adequate game manager. However, better get a SB win out of the next 2-3 years because those guys will be getting the hell out of Cincinnati as soon as possible, too. Only alcoholic hotheads like Cedric Benson want to stay.

Bengals really missed Leon Hall and having to let go Jonathan Joseph was a set back.
Exactly the point. Then Bengals have all these shiny new toys to play with in Dalton, AJG, and 2 draft picks, but they fail to lock up the foundation. Letting go of Joseph is exactly the sort of thing that the Bengals do every year that makes competitive players like Palmer say, screw you guys. Same will be said for AJG in a few years. Same for Dalton. Only guys like Cedric Benson, guys who really have no other options, will resign with this pathetic franchise.

LOL since this is now a Bengals threadjack I'll reply to certain things.

Was Palmer massively improved? No. The bottom line is we got two good picks for him - our end of the trade is good no matter what. It's on the Raiders to make their half of the bargain work. Dude quit on the team and we got two high picks? Success.

How many teams invest $20m in their starting corners? Basically that is what folks are saying the Bengals needed to do b/c that would be the price to keep both Hall and Joseph. I think that would be too much to tie up in the position. The Bengals like Hall better (JoJo had a track record of injuries prior to this year). It was a tough choice but if they sign JoJo to that contract basically they are losing Hall the next year. Hall getting hurt made it much tougher.

But again that's not the point that started the kerfuffel. Palmer wouldn't have done any better in that playoff game. That's just truth.

if they make a winning offer to jj then some or all of lawson, howard, clements and hall are not on the team. its a pretty big risk to invest such big money in a single player, qbs excluded.

Whatever anesthetizes the pain of following this franchise. I'm just surprised to see Cincy fans crowing about anything, let alone that they got one over on the Raiders. As long as you have the worst owner in professional sports, keep the :bag: easily within reach.

Bengals wishing they had Carson Palmer back.
:goodposting: They win this game with Palmer at QB.
Maybe, but they probably don't even reach the playoffs with Palmer at QB.
Palmer came in off the coach mid-season and threw for 2,637 yards and 13 TDs and went 4-5 as a starter.Dalton threw for 1,919 yards and 11 TDs and went 4-5 as a starter over that same span. :coffee:
:lmao:Oakland played a whopping 2 teams that finished above .500 during that span, while Cincinnati played Pittsburgh and Baltimore 4 times.

Could've used a veteran signal caller.

Oakland was playing without any wide receivers though

Dalton + 1st Round pick + 2nd Round pick >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Palmer

No question yesterday was a tough loss, and a game they could have won, but given where I (and many others) thought this team was in pre-season, I'll take what they have now - which is a solid foundation on which to build. Add the two draft picks, and this is a team ready to compete for the next several years, which is really what you want as a fan. Now, if the Bengals can just get a coach who does not waste re-play challenges on obvious plays...

Hmmm, what's missing from the above post?Couldn't be the fact that Carson had 13 INTs whereas Dalton only had 6. :coffee: -QG

dalton fell pretty hard in the 2nd half. i would not be sold on him at all as a bengals fan. doesnt really matter as the franchise wont replace him for at least 2 more years, even if andrew luck was staring at them.

didn't realize Dalton played left guard  -QG

Really? I'm a bit embarrassed by my fellow Raider fans.

Palmer threw 13 TDs vs 16 INTs and you know what? His INT could have been the 20s because he tossed into coverage so often.

Can't really hate the trade until we see what happens next season, but I can't believe some Raider fans actually have the balls to crow now.

I think we can all agree if your goal is to get as many yards as possible, Palmer is a decent QB.

With a halfway decent one the Raiders are in the playoffs.

Good luck upgrading the D after giving away your first and eating salary on an aging, mediocre QB.

Bad trade then, remains a bad trade now. Gave up way too much for an aging, mediocre QB. If they had simply traded for Gradkowski, I think they wind up with a better record.

Um, actually they failed to resign Gradkowski and the Bengals grabbed him. Don't think we would trade him back there (unless of course, ya know, we got a #1 and a #2 for him). But alas the Hue Jackson era is over in Oakland. Here's hoping he lands somewhere with more assets to give away to Mike Brown :) -QG

Funny b/c it's now apparent that CP won't be following Hue to Cincy? Trying to find a connection to Carson Palmer, but I am at a loss.
Obviously payback for the 1-sided trade. Hue has never coached defense or special teams. They had no reason to hire him other than that they owe him one.

 Based on the trade, it's a small price to pay for the hire ;) All kidding aside, though, Chad and Housh developed and broke out under him so I think it's a good hire (though a crazy demotion level from being a power-hungry HC).-QG

Ya think so? What do you figure they will pay him? He's gonna be paid $2M this year from the Raiders for doing his nails. Does he really need to be errand boy to multiple assistants and take on that auspicious group of Pacman Jones, Taylor Mays & Gibril Wilson? How fall has Hue fallen to just say he's still an NFL employee! I guess he thinks he can work his way back up the chain. Do they have manicure salons in Cincy?

He's not going to be coaching the WR's or any offensive positions. He's a total rookie starting over with zero/zilch backround at what he will be doing. I agree it's a crazy plummeting of the pecking order for Hue.

Oops just realized he's coaching secondary and special teams rather than WRs. Still fine with the hire.-QG
Good. Here's what you're getting. An entry level, no experiece in his life, ST and secondary coach who largley ignored these functions when he last coached. An egotistical blowhard who readily throws his players under the bus if they fail, and separtes himself of any accountability. He'll be assistant catchall coach to anyone in need of a waterbucket (and like it). And he will do this working with a group of Pacman Jones, Taylor Mays & Gibril Wilson. Yeah good luck with that.

"expeiece" "largley" "separtes"? I'm thinking you're typing from emotion here ;) The Bengals and Marvin know what they are getting - they wouldn't bring him back if they didn't figure it would work. More importantly, perhaps it gives us a better shot at some of those FAs that are coming from the Raiders like Routt, Branch, and Bush."Coincidentally" Routt was visiting the Bengals today.-QG
